My sister who lives in the west midlands has told me houses in her area have dropped on average this year by at least 10%, is a big crash on the way back home?
According to Sky news a survey by the Halifax showed a slump of 2.5% in March.
In the West Midlands there has been a drop of 5% in the last 3 months. I work in a small town where there are 7 Estate Agents including the one I work for. There has always been plenty of work for all of them. However on Friday, Your Move, closed and their staff were laid off. This is not a good sign at all. I am afraid it is not looking good on the housing front at the moment. Even my boss is worrying and that is not a good sign. We have houses coming on but nothing is selling.
My Brother-in-Law is in Perth and says there has been a slight drop in house prices there. My mum just came back and brought back a issue of the Homebuyer. It has a page in it which has all the median prices for each suburb, which is very interesting.

Hi, I really do think it depends on which area of the UK you live. I live in North Yorkshire and whilst properties are taking on average 6/8 mths on sell they are still holding there price. We had a look on rightmove.co.uk and it all seem to be steady, dare I say at the moment in North Yorkshire. I think those who live in the South East of England will see a bigger drop.

For my sake I hope they do drop, we sold 2 flats to come out and rented our house out. Those flats were our pension. So if they do drop as much as Sky say we'll be able to buy back acoup[le of flats and hopfully get our pension back on track.
But saying that I do feel desperatley sorry for those of you that are trying to sell to come out hear as I think property will hold it's ground alot more than the UK market. What with the exchange rate not in your favor as well it could amount to alot of money.
If I was coming over all over again in the situation that it is in now. I would rent my Propertys out remorgage bring over the minimum amount possibly for a deposite on a house and get a morgage over hear. And bring my money over when the exchange rate or the property market (Idealy both) start to strengthen again.
I may be talking b*ll*cks as this sort of thing really is not my field.

I think you are right it totally depends where you live.
According to the media houseprices in the north are still rising only by 1.2% but things are still selling round here as long as you dont get greedy and are realistic.
We have undercut everyone to sell because it is so important to us because of that we received 2 offers in 3 weeks and currently are trying to complete but because of the fiascos with the banks there are so many backlogs.
good luck toanyone selling not matter where you are.
Hi all,
We're about to put our house up for sale and are really worried. We want to go in Sept but our fixed rate finishes in Aug so after that we're in the hands of the interest rates aswell. Our house is our savings so although we have talked about renting our house we have no idea if it would cover the cost of mortgage, etc. and how we would get by over there even though we plan to rent for a year first before buying.
It's so frustrating as we've had our visa since last April and have waited on to let our youngest daughter finish school this year. when you here of property rising in Oz you get that feeling of why do we always miss the boat. Don't get me wrong NOTHING will spoil us starting a new life but it sometimes feels that luck never runs with you.
I must say tho' i've a mate who's moved to NZ and it's true what he said that we should count ourselves lucky we can move. Quite true.

Keith, you seem the same as us we bought when all the house prices were high and then the interest rates rocketed (how we ever hung onto our house at the time ile never know), and now finally decided to go to Aus and the house prices dropping here and going up there. We are going to cut our losses and go though, and maybe your house is worth what someone is willing to pay for it, I know I would have paid abit more for our house because I loved it so much , so can only hope that there is someone else out there that rules with their heart and not their head
