ABC radio perth have said theres a big bush fire close to port kennedy & secret harbour & that residents are to wait for instructions before evacuating !
Firstly - I hope all members are safe & will not have to leave their homes.
secondly - how scarey - are there lots of these fires each year? & can you find out where they are most likely to happen?
A house boat on the swan is looking v attractive right now
Take care all
Rachel

At 6.30pm this evening ( 3.30am oz time) Secert harbour residents were told that the fire fighters were happy with the fire, as the winds had changed and it was heading towards the sea, where it would die down itself...
Our friends who live there had to keep there house wet, and all is ok...
There was a bush fire in forestdale too at weekend - apparently the majority of bush fires are set deliberatley. In some areas there are bush fire warning and you'll see signs saying low - high risk

Have to say I felt a bit nervous last night listening to all the sirens & watching the helicopters going back & forward. Luckily although we are beachside we are at the top end of PK, must have been a real worry for those who were evacuated though. This is the 3rd fire since the weekend in this area, I hope the scroats who are starting them can live with any consequences their actions might have. You just don`t think about this sort of stuff in the UK though, because it`s been so dry over the summer it doesn`t take much to get started and because of the strong winds here on the coast it seems to take off (the fire & smoke were pretty bad).
It was spectacular from a distance. Unfortunately here in Perth anyway bush fires are fairly common in the summer and can be pretty big. A number of times I have been diverted on my way home from Perth to Rocky this year because of the fires nearing the road. As long as you don't live too near the bush generally you are Ok - they rarely will enter the suburban limits - apart from the park / nature reserves.
