Question Flying in two stages? Or not??

Hi there, everyone....

What do all the 'already in Oz' members think about the journey there? Would you recommend simply getting on with it, and therefore getting it over with as quickly as possible... Or would you recommend a break of a day or two in the middle, to recharge batteries, and then move onto the second stage?

We have two boys, 8 and 3.5 - We have thoughts on both ways of going about the trip, and are struggling here! We can see plus points for both.

Any pearls of wisdom???

Thanks,

Andrea x x x

Hi Andrea,

When we went over last April we did it in one hit, heathrow-dubai-melbourne-tasmania. I was the only one awake when we got to Tas, OH and the kids even slept thro' the landing . We have thought about stopping in Dubai when we do make the move but we've decided that we will be too excited and will prob just want to get there!

Hope the journey goes smoothly for you whatever you decide.

Hi Guys
I think your best to get it all out of the way at once.We stayed in Dubai for 3 days going and came straight back and it was fine. When we got to Dubai I just wanted to go straight to Aus. I think if You have your extra allocated baggage allowance your not allowed to get off any way.

Yes luggage allowance is only 20kg if you stop over.....
However done the trip each time with a stopover normally in Bangkok, but maybe with 2 kids it would be better just to get on with it. Although depends on where you are flying into as Perth is a doddle and Sydney is another 5 hours on top.Emirates offer us geordies a free stopover in a hotel in dubai for approx 8 hours which Im taking advantage of this time. IF you have the money go business class it make a world of difference....believe me.Good luck with your new life down under

We did it all in one go too - you generally don't get extra baggage allowance if you do a stop over - and this may be important to you.

We did it all in one, Manchester-Dubai-Singapore-Brisbane. Had an hour or so stop in Dubai and Singapore. Our kids were 4, 2 and 10 months, and didn't fancy dragging them about, wanted it over with. Went a lot better than expected.

Well, we done the stopover thing at Singapore for 3 nights with Singapore airlines and still had our extra baggage entitlement too.
We're really glad we did, Singapore was fantastic and so much there to see and do.
I'd recommend it, as we had only done short flights before and thought we had might aswell make a big thing of the journey out here to our new life.
The hotels are top class, the place is so clean and safe, the shopping is out of this world, the zoo is great and you can also do a nighttime safari trip there and Sentosa Island is definately worth a visit, as there are lots of attractions there too (beaches, butterfly farm, Aquarium and Dolphin lagoon to name a few.
But as previous said, its up to you, some people like to get it over and done with in one go.... good luck & have fun deciding !!!!!!!!!!

Hi
We stopped in Singapore for 3 days and got extra baggage allowance too. It was nice to have a few days break before we arrived here but then we didn't have young children so it might not be so much of a break! If the kids haven't slept on the flight to Singapore you might be glad of a few days there so they can sleep in a proper bed and everyone can get some rest before you arrive in Oz, on the other hand you might just want to get here and on with it....it's a very personal choice but good luck with whatever you decide to do.....

I'm a single stopper. It is 24 hours of your life and you want to get it over and done with as soon as possible! I guess I have had the luxury of travelling through most of the places that are refuelling stops these days so have no burning desire to see them again. Get it over and done with is my mantra. The kids will bounce back no matter which way you do it just be prepared to be dog tired yourself for a couple of days. My personal preference is a late night departure having worked/sightseen all day. I am usually asleep before the wheels go up and most times I wake up just in time for the pre stop meal. You get into Aus early in the morning and then go as long as you can and get an early night and hopefully you will be in synch with the rest of the world.
