Hi
We are the Warners!!!!!
I read this site from time to time but don't tend to come to post, not sure why but pomsinadelaide is where I spend alot of time now...
At the time of filming of the programme we were undecided about where to go in Oz and although Brisbane was great, for us it wasn't the right place to go due to humidity - our youngest was almost over a terrbile time with eczema and I couldn't risk it being aggravated by the climate. Melbourne was next on the list to be considered but we started looking into Adelaide when a friend was told to go due to visa changes and thought it looked good. Anyway this is where we are now.
Things are going well...we have a house, very different from the ones we looked at for the TV programme, which filmed us about 3 days after we moved in! We had planned to have one built or so we thought but perhaps hadn't found out about all the costs or how long they take so while we were having a think about where to go, we popped into a couple of opens and found this place.
We bought a dog, as we had promised the kids, who is gorgeous and helped the kids settle - he's called Alfie, inspired after listening to Lily Allen. Emily blossomed in terms of confidence after the filming and has settled really well down under (she is the eldest who didn't want to come). She has made great friends and I am really pleased. That being said, she misses her friends still but made a real effort to try hard to get involved. However, MSN should be banned in my opinion as she was def more emotional whenever she spoke to her buddies online in the beginning but now things are okay. She likes introducing her Aussie mates to her UK ones etc. Sophie has taken to Oz like a duck to water but I thought she would so I am pleased for that. She spends so much time outside - just what we wanted for her.
Getting work as teachers has been 'interesting'- I got a contract job at a private school which gave me experience in other subject areas, which I was hoping to get into when the filming took place in 2006. Get this - I taught English for 10 days and can now claim to be an experienced English teacher, only in Australia! My hubbie started a perm job this work, after working in supply teaching last term so we have had one of working almost all the time since we arrived in April 2007. I am still looking but not stressing... He is started a collection of the most foul shirts that Oz has to offer, and has started to wear flip flops, something he never did in UK, and has a ridiculous tan.
I did have a few wobbles in about August/ September but things are better now. Two winters almost on the trot was alot for my stressed nerves to cope with and all in all, we are doing well. We hope to go back to UK in Oct for a quick hol. Life is different to what we thought but that doesn't make it bad. We like it and I can't see us leaving for a while.
Now I just have to convince the hubbie to move to France!
Now I've updated you, there's no need to watch...oops!
Libby x
