Wink Omg- Lawn Mowered A Cane Toad......

There I was inncocently mowing the lawn, opened up the grass box, and there it was- a bloody HUGE cane toad. . I won't go into details, suffice to say that I ran screaming to J who put it out of it's misery, and it is now at peace.

It just reminded me of the Youtube clip "Baz the Cane toad" - think the link below should lead straight to it. If not, just search under Cane Toads and "Baz" should come up. (this cartoon in NOT for the sensitive, only those with a bit of an understanding of the humour here ........)

Me and bloody animals, what can I say ?????

ps has anyone else done this (or nearly strimmered a skink, etc, etc) ????? Oh and J got bitten by a paper wasp today (OUCH) - I went into a panic thinking it was a spider bite , but he seems ok. Gardening is quite hazardous in the tropics !!!!!!! Well it is in our garden LOL

PS THIS CARTOON IS IN VERY BAD TASTE IF YOU ARE SENSITIVE OR SQUEAMISH............. can't believe it happened to me !!!!! Take that back, yes I can...........lol

Wikepedia - In the Australian states where the Cane Toad is common, some rather cruel 'sports' have developed, such as Cane Toad golf or Cane Toad cricket where a normal game of golf or cricket is played, except using cane toads for the balls. In April 2005, Dave Tollner, a Northern Territory Member of Parliament, called for the legalisation of attacking the Cane Toad, which was criticized by many animal and conservation groups, which said that freezing was a more humane way to kill cane toads rather than hitting them over the head with cricket bats.[29] The short film "Cane Toad - What happened to Baz?" displays the Australian attitude towards the Cane Toad. This film won the "Best Comedy" award at the 2003 St Kilda Film Festival. However, the short relies on humour which Australians connect with, and screenings in overseas festivals have been more reserved - says it all, an Ozzie humour !!!

Not given a cane toad the short back and sides like you have, but I had to pull quite a large one out of the skimmer box of the swimming pool the other day.

His swimming days are now over thanks to my friend Mr Brick

Ha ha ha !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I never even saw the bloody thing - with the wet season the grass just grown like wildfire. I sound evil don't I, but if anything hurt my Sophie now...............

I've even caught them taking a short cut across our swimming pool. YUCK !!!!!!!!! Must be saltwater-proof and all.

There is supposedly a "myxy - rabbit" type virus under investigation at the moment that may control caneys, , but I have seen what myxy does to rabbits - not nice. And at the end of the day, the cane toad does not realise it's a pest, does it? Just thinks it's a frog born here I guess.

If it wasn't a danger to native wildlife and our dog, I would just live and live. As long as they don't turn up in my bloody mower. Or garden..........

Oh and did I mention the poor gecko that I closed the window on ? I ran screaming to J that some sort of snake (his tail) was squirming around on the bathroom floor............ J to the rescue again. I check every single window and screen door now - that really upset me.

Hi Alliekate

Why did you kill the gecko? They are harmless and their tails grow back pretty quickly after they have been shed. Shedding thwir tails is merely a device to help them to escape from predators.

Cheers

Gill

It was far more injured than just a severed tail - I had crushed the whole bloody thing, and it was dying. I hoped against hope it would be a tail malfuntion (we have lots of stumpies), but this was really going to die.

I still can't look at that window. And feel so bad about it - I adore my geckos.

Hi,

just thought I'd clarify - Al opened the bathroom window and accidentaly hit the gecko which was hiding in one of the window runners. She would never harm one intentionally.

We have bloody hundreds in our house and she is especially proud of our 'babies' - smallest one so far is about 1cm with HUGE googly eyes!
