Hi guys
Can anyone give us any info on whether our email address can still be used in oz? (btopenworld.co.uk) Have been told by another that it probably won't work and was hoping our 12 year old would have known this question. So, basically can our email be accessible once in oz or do we need to change this? How do you go about this, for anybody who has had to do this?
Eddie
thanks for your info
If you're email is through your current ISP (internet service provider) then it will become inactive as soon as you cancel the account. However, you can easily set up a yahoo or hotmail or google account in either aus or the UK and use them anywhere in the world (within reason.) Just go on yahoo (or hotmail or google) UK or Australia and set up a new account through their instructions. Takes all of 5 minutes and then just make sure you upload or copy your current email addresses into the address book of the new account and your off. Some people use these forever while some people then get a new australian account with their own internet once you set up house. It's always good to keep one of these other accounts active for times like this when you are in transit as you can access from an library, internet cafe or on your own laptap if you have wi fi. Good luck!

Hi eddie and tina
I would think NOT as it is linked to your internet provider and I don't think BT go as far as Oz of course you could always pay to keep your account active for a couple of months, personally I don't want to pay them any more than I have too, they have had enough out me for the last few years
We have all got hotmail addresses so that we can access them online from anywhere until we get set up with broadband in Oz
If I was you I would check out online e mail MSN hotmail Yahoo and I think google are doing one now too, we use MSN for web cam sessions too very easy to set up and use
hope this helps

hi guys
Thanks for your quick replies. Even more confused now, with differing replies but what i have got on my laptop is msn messenger. I believe this is free or is it part of bt yahoo who is my ip server, meaning would i lose this when i finish with bt?
Question 2 i don't currently use this but have a log in address for it, would this then become my new email address in oz if need be?
Sorry if this sounds confusing but i'm not sure how any of it works in oz. Would be great if i had some idea before i go.
Thanks again.
Eddie
Hi eddie, i agree it is all confusing now with the different replies!! i have an MSN account set up via my hotmail address which you can do now for free (sign onto homail.com and make a new account, transfer your address's over) and access from any computer anywhere in the world. As for using yor bt account i dont think you can as (if its the same as mine) its through my home set up and once i close the account will loose the address. I hope this helps,
Hays xx
Thanks Hays
Firstly can i say it was very nice to see you back on line, not seen any threads or replies from you, apart from kps tonight. (not been on for a couple of days). To be safe, this is what we'll do in the morning, make sure we have a hotmail account set up so we can give it to friends/family before we go.
Many thanks.
Eddie and Tina
thanks eddie and tina, ive been sneaking on every now and again, but have kept a low profile!!! not like me eh!
i think the hotmail thing is best way to go like you say, better safe than sorry and its free so its not a waste of money.
good luck!
I kept my AOL account open and am still able to send & receive emails
From my laptop at any broadband connection
It is possible to configure an additional account on Microsoft Outlook Express or indeed any mail programme.
To send & receive email from any PC.
You have to dial in using the owners account to establish the connection.
