wicker yes or no!

hi all

We fly on the 24th march to melbourne and we are in the process of getting removal quotes. Im a a bit confused!! we are being told by one company not to bring our wicker items (4 dining chairs-quite new- a large toy chest a foot stool, linen basket) they say they we will be charged $80 per item to fumigate, another company has said to bring them and hope not to get checked! and a 3rd said bring them no problem at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
has anyone took over wicked no trouble or would you advise selling it/giving away here?
Many many thanks.

Hi Peppa

We brought all our wicker bits to oz - we have 2 very large wicker screens (the sort you can use to divide rooms) just to give you an idea of size - a set of 3 wicker chests that we brought from homebase a few years ago and a wicker stool and a few other smaller bits.
Had no problems with them at all and customs did not fumigate them either
go for it good luck

:)Perhaps we were lucky or perhaps the guidelines have changed, but we brought over a huge wicker chair and table without any problem.
If it were me, I would be inclined to bring them anyway because even if you have to pay to fumigate, it still works out cheaper than re-buying it all! (Assuming the $80 quoted is correct!)
Maybe you could check it out yourself? You know, email customs? We did that with my son's sword collection...

Thank you all so much. Was hating the thought of leaving it all behind. One more question!! when you listed your stuff did you list the items as wicker or did you just say 'toy chest' ?

I'm with Gizmo, honesty is the best policy! (Unless it's hurtful and negative of course!)We answered everything as honestly as we could, including the wicker/wood etc questions.

Bring i! non of it will be a problem unless its covered with mud from the garden! Declare it, but the customs and Q guys will spot it anyway, and unless its filthy dirty it will pass by without cost. Regards
