Hi All,
Happy new Year to you all.
I have just had the most fantastic Xmas and New Year, its been wonderful, I think it was so special this year as my sister in law, her hubbie and their daughter came over to spend it with us. They were our first visitors from the UK since we came in Dec 2006.
We have had just a wonderful time, sightseeing, laughing, sharing stories and memories of the past. They now know where we live, what our home is like, they have met our friends and have enjoyed every single minute with us as we have them! BUT
I have just had to say GOOD-BYE and I am devastated that they are going home! Hubbie has taken them to the airport about 1 hour ago and our daughter has gone with him, ( no room in the car for me ) I cant stop crying ( how sad is that ), I will miss them so much, the house feels so empty already. Its times like this that it really hits home how far we actually are away from them. I have never suffered from homesickness as this is my home now but I really do miss some people and wish I could have them here with me!!!!
It is great to hear that you had a nice Christmas and New Year with your family. I really feel for you and am sending you lots of hugs!!
I know that the house is now empty but your heart will be full of all the happy times you have had together over the last few weeks!!
My sister is coming over in February (I havent seen her for 9 months) and even tho I am so looking forward to seeing her I am already dreading saying goodbye!!
I know exactly how you feel. I've been in Perth a year now and still miss all my family and friends like mad. I've to and frowed lots between the UK and Perth since emigrating here in 1997 and after having had a number of years back in the UK I'm going through the motions of settlig in again. As yet, my brother and his family haven't been to visit but I know that the time they do come I'll be dreading the day they leave.
I think it takes a couple of years to really settle (i've had bad homesickeness both initially coming to Australia and also when returning to England in 2004). Take a day at a time and look forward to all those other visitors that are going to be coming to stay.
I will be in the same boat as yourself from tomoz as we have had our first visitors here for 6 1/2weeks my OH's parents, it was lovely to have some family here for our first christmas and new year, we're taking them to the airport tomoz morning, it will feel strange and quiet, another 10months before our next visitors come over, and we should be in our new house then.
Hi Sian..my sister-in-law use to really suffer every time someone visited from the uk and she had a real pull to move back..it only lasted a little while, but it would really unsettle her..she has been in Aus nearly 11 years now and i think still finds it hard, but just accepts she will feel like it and copes a little more..all the best and i hope you feel better very soon!.. Pingpong
My sister booked her holiday over here before we left the UK. She was coming over before we got our visas as she was going to stay with our rellies. We didn't say our goodbyes at home as we knew we'd see each other in 3 months. She's here now and it has been great having her about but I don't want to get used to her being here, it is a small blessing that she's spending some of her holiday on her own with the rellies in that respect. I know that saying goodbye is going to be really hard when she goes at the end of the month. I'm not going to the airport, teary goodbyes aren't fair on her and my Mum has banned me! It's not that it's a final goodbye, just a 'we don't know when you'll be here or we'll visit you next' type of thing.
Big hugs from me, you cry as much as you want hun I reckon it's far better out than in!
Felicity

Thanks for all your replies,
I feel a lot better today, tho the house still feels really quiet! Gonna pull myself together and get on with all the cleaning and gardening I have left slip!!!
Thanks again for all your support.
Wishing you all a fantastic 2008,
Love and Hugs,
We took OH's parents to the airport yesterday, and it brings back all those emotions back again, we had to be brave and as soon as we got in the car after leaving them we also had a little cry, but they are allready planning on coming out again although there in there early seventies, the house is so quiet but onwards and upwards like yourself i'm going to go through the whole house cleaning and keep myself busy as soon as i get off this site LOL.
It's really tough saying goodbye - it's like leaving the UK all over again only this time it's someone else doing the leaving - I don't know if it will get easier or harder each visit but you've got some brilliant memories to look back on.
