After we started our process we started to tell freinds and family about it. OH was at our daughters football one Saturday morning and spoke to one of the other players mum's about Postie jobs, as he quite fancies being a postie in Oz (riding about on a moped and getting paid for it is what's appealing I think!) Anyway, he told her about our plans, and by the Monday she'd got herself an agent & had started sorting out stuff for her OH's skills assessment! They haven't been bofore but I think we'd bigged it up so much, and they did say that they'd spoken about it years ago. They are looking at the Gold Coast too! They've have a bit of a set back with their skills assessment, but I've got my fingers crossed for them! They are going to get it sorted out soon though, and I'm sure they'll get there!!
We don't have any family there, and the only family I have here is my Brother, and I can see him wanting to head there one day too!

I would love it if my younger brother followed me over! The lady at the football club didn't hang about! Sometimes all it takes is a little push in the right direction....... One lady i met at a friends Christmas party last week was so excited when she heard about me applying for my visa. She asked loads of questions and of course I told her about PIO. lol

Yes, I told her about PIO too! This forum is SO addictive! I got really excited telling her about it! And she too is now a member! Yes, it's funny how some people are SO interested when you tell them about OZ...the amount of people who have said that they have thought about it at one time or another! Suppose it is just a dream for some people, but hopefully our dream will soon be a reality!!

A girl I used to work and became good friends with started to apply, she had never been but her hubby wanted to go. At first I was rather suprised and worried about the fact she hadnt visited (as id been 3 or 4 times) and concerned it was her hubbys dream and not hers (they had only been together about a year). I was pregnant at the time and even ended up arguing with him one night when he told me I had to think about my young child and one on way as a better life etc. Anyway they got their visa and were heading to Perth. Soon after I had the baby I did a complete turn around and knew that I wanted to come here. My hubby has family here on the Gold Coast so we went for it, they left for Perth in April and we arrived in Gold Coast in the August.
When we had decided to look into the move we only told our best friends (my youngests Godparents) about our intentions, a little time later they approched us and asked if we minded if they looked into it, of course we were over the moon. They now have their visa and are coming for a reccie in Feb, its amaxing what can happen in the space of 12 months lol.
Shortly after we came over last year we found out that some very good friends of ours (our boys godparents) had applied for there visa and were also coming over.
We were over the moon as they were going to be living about 40 minutes away from us. We spoke with them a lot on the phone (they never rang us) and sent emails.
We have not been able to contact them for a few months now and we know that they are living no more than an hour away (dont know address just area) and we have heard nothing from them. Not even a Christmas card (they have our address and phone number).
At first OH thought I was reading too much into it when it was us constantly calling them and us emailing them photos and getting no response. Now he just thinks well sod it, if our so called friends (and I mean we were really good friends - they even came to the airport to see us off!!) can all of a sudden start ignoring us then they are not worth worrying about!! It no longer upsets me anymore and just think it just goes to show who your real friends are!!
My brother and his family have also been looking into coming over and have been speaking with an agent. So fingers crossed they will be here soon!!!!
I think its great that your friends are looking into coming over, you must be so looking forward to it.
Good Luck Deb xx

Deb, arnt people weird at times, expecially considering they are your boys godparents. Like you say, not work getting upset about.
My dad emigrated about 5 years ago. He was in Durban, South Africa and I think what encouraged him and his wife was that 2 of her 4 kids live in Perth. My sister then followed 3 years ago and I have always wanted to go but felt it was upto OH to make final decision as he is the one that has to work and he also has a big family here that he is very close too.
My sister and her family applied to emigrate before they had even been there, they finally went down in the October for a holiday and loved it and then they got their Visa in the January. They are very, very happy and came back here for a month's hol in 2006 and realised that Oz is now their home. They have 2 sets of friends that also came from the town where we live.
OH finally decided after our 3rd holiday that he wanted to move their to live so hopefully, touch wood, fingers crossed, we might get there this year. My mum has also applied on a CP Visa.
Hoping Xmas next this year will be the ONE!
Goodluck
Claire
