Sids Dad is an unknown quantity at this point
Sorry oldgit I cannot tell you the answer but there are lots of web sites that will, what i will say though is, have you tried the new BBC i player? i tried it today and it's great, you can watch any BBC program for the last seven days. Use google and type in bbc iplayer and away you go. When I get to Oz at least we can watch decent programs as long as we get broadband.
Hope this is a bit of info/help

IT answers

Sids Dad

Sorry to disapoint - it doesn't work over here.... Iplayer doesn't work as it looks for a UK server to send the data to. As you are in Oz and the gateway has an Oz IP address (I don't know how this works but I know it does - I worked at C4 when they were creating 4oD).

Oldgit,

You need some capture software by the sound of it as Media centre isn't very good. Video Capture Software - Reviews and free downloads at Download.com - they are lots about. If you need to convert to DVD, they use something like DVD Shrink (to reduce the size to under 4.6 gb and then DVD Decypter to burn to the HDD) after doing that then you can burn to DVD...

Hope that helps - I'm no IT guru so please feell free to correct me if I'm wrong..

Dan

I just create a DVD with the audio_ts and video_ts folders and put an AVI in the video_ts folder and that works in my DVD player.

No I just do it in my CD burning program, I just create the folder and I dump the AVI in there and that's it.

I think that MPG is fine to do it that way also, it's so much easier but as I understand it it only works with very new DVD players so give it a go, it certainly works with my 6 month old $100 LG DVD player.
