Its true that it is a bit of a mission sorting out the licences etc for plumbers/sparkies etc and there could be better links to this although my OH is absolutely fine about having to do whatever extra training is required as its only right and correct for Australia to expect you to be fully up to speed with their rules, regulations and practices etc which are all, are different to ours. He also thinks its a mission to attain all the necessary certificates to keep going here, which become more time consuming and expensive every time they come around and with each passing year there seems to be yet another bl**dy course needs attending to get yet another piece of paper which says you can do what you've been doing for 25 years.
Starting wages (before fully licenced up) don't seem too bad to us but we, along with most people are not hoping to move to Oz to earn loads of money, its the quality of life that is more important and as long as there's enough money to pay our way thats all we need.
Dont give up at the first hurdle, have a good look round Department of Immigration and Citizenship where there are links to what licences are required for your particular trade in whatever state you would like to settle in and take it from there.

I agree with Lyn ,,the wages arent too bad ,you will always be put on a lower wgae to start ,until you proove yourself.Gary is a mechanic and had a choice of jobs ,he hasnt done any courses or anything and is now teaching some of the aussie mechanics.More than anything we came for the way of life and its a million times better than the Uk !!

You can't compare english and aus salaries - the £'s don't really convert to the $'s when it comes to wages. On the face of it, my hubby and I have taken a substantial drop in money (if you tried to compare), but being paid the going rate for our jobs - we're managing fine on what we're getting.
