Have you got use to the BIG spacious houses and your mail box outside?...

Now you have moved to Aus have you forgotten how small the houses are here in the uk compared..when we arrived back and i walked into my in-laws house it felt like a rabbit hutch..so cramped and squashed in and i had to use the stairs..so love no stairs!..the Aus ones are so open and spacious..i love 'em..and the mail coming through the front door was certainly a novelty for a while..never knew what i'd find when i poked my hand in to get my mail out in Aus..mind you i'm not sure whether i like getting my mail through the front door knowing it's cold and p***ing it down outside or walking down the pathway in the sun and blue skies...hhhhmmmm?..and don't you love the posties in their skimpy shorts and scooters!..

We're still waiting for our container contents to be delivered (it comes on Monday - whoo hoo!!!!) so our 3 bed mansion (ha ha that's how it feels) is so echoey. I love the fact that we're not squashed and when our stuff arrives it will fit nicely and still leave lots of space for me to potter about in.

I do like walking down the drive to check the mail box but I am also not looking forward to the day I put my hand in and something else comes out with the mail! I did send OH down with the baygon the other week to spray it because he said we had a nastie thing taking up residence! Oh and the posties won't be allowed to wear shorts for much longer - new health and safety thing. OH was looking forward to his work uniform being shorts (he's a motorcycle postie now) and with the heat and exposure to the sun posties will be wearing long trousers to prevent burning and skin cancer risks.

Hi Felicity..what a shame about the shorts..suppose it's just one of those things that was bound to come, with the increase in awareness of skin cancer..does that include all outside jobs like removal men, etc.?

Oh Bugger, never thought about beasties in my mail box!!!
The mansion tho, omg its fabulous, we all have a bedroom each and even a spare when visitors come , or the snoring gets too bad!! When I think of our last house, we had a small terrace in Lancashire, only had it for 3 years as we came back from Tenerife to apply for the visas. We renovated it completely so it was really smart, but so so small. My daughter had her own bedroom and the baby was in ours! How would we cope now as they are 5 and 2 !!!
We had a back yard, yes and it was a yard, concrete and big enough for just the wheelie bin and recycling boxes!!
When I try to explain to our Ozzy neighbours they say " Do you mean like Coronation Street ( We get it here on the equivalent of Sky ), I say YES it was!! I was so shocked when we moved back to my oh's home town, its not like that in Wales!!!
So I think I can cope with the beasties in the letterbox guys!!
Good Luck to you all that are in the process of getting here, I didnt know about this site until we had been her 6 months, we will celebrate our first year in 2 weeks and we love it! As many say its not everyones cup of tea, buts its grand for us and everything and more than what we expected, tho I do have to say it is what you make it!!! Good Luck to you all!!

Ali, I do exactly the same no way im putting my hand in there without looking first. Wouldnt it be better if the flap was on the top and it would save you having to bend down like an idiot lol

You do realise how small some houses are in the UK when you visit back.I also noticed how stifling the houses can be with double glazing and central heating.

I'm always checking the post box as we have had a few Huntsman mixed in with the junk mail.

Not funny trying to find it in all the compartments in a four wheel drive!!!
