The Picketts is an unknown quantity at this point
Didn't want to mention it before cos so many members seem to have a phobia about them but now the dreaded word SPIDER has been mentioned I thought I would let you know that we finally had to get the pest controllers out to spray our house and garden this week. We have only been here 3 months but on the second day of our arriving I came across our first REDBACK, since then we have have killed 7 more in the garage plus a lovely round ball of eggs/babies then last Saturday whilst a friend was over having a meal with us I looked across our family room and dangling from a thread from the air conditioning vent was yet another one. On Sunday whilst hubby was doing a bit of weeding another large female ran across his hand (fortunately he had gloves on!). Since then he became rather paranoid and is very jittery about everything that moves.......even threatening we should go back to Chingford - not.... He then calls me to get rid of whatever it is LOL....

Just going to be a bit more careful in future and go out in the garden comander style!

Apart from the redbacks there were hundreds of the common black spider living in the top indentations of the colorbond fencing which apparently, though toxic to those with sensitivities aren't too bad - just ugly and rather large. We now have lots of carcases on the lawn so the sprayers seem to have done their job - for three months anyway......

Bye - Cheryl

The white tails like our house - I manage to nuke at least one a week! Again they bite and the more sensitive you are the nastier it can be!

The wolf spiders inhabit the front garden - I don't mind that, they are big enough to see and haven't ventured indoors yet.

Mr B was just minding his own business on Wednesday, posting peoples mail as posties do when he stopped and spotted a huntsman sitting on top of the letter box. I'm afraid if that was me the neighbours would be receiving that persons mail!

Don't take that for granted ali, some have yellow stripes on their back, I have also seen one that had a blue stripe ? they are from the Black Widow variety of spiders.
Redbacks are no worse than bee's in a way, they can make you feel a bit sick if you are allergic to them, they are as common as the old daddy long legs in the UK, but standing on them sorts them out, spraying a redback nest will not kill the young or eggs, a bit of 2 stroke and a lighter does the trick.
I was told 30 odd years ago by a pest controller, that a can of Morteine would keep my home free of most creepy crawlies, & it has.
