I keeping seeing mentions of the clothes not being very good in Australia. So I feel answers are needed from all areas.
I like my fitted tops and boot cut jeans. Are these really so hard to get hold of over there or does it just depend on where you are? Also, what are the shoes like? I can't wear flip flops (thongs as they call them).
I find it hard to imagine that the main cities wouldn't have shops that sell a good choice in clothes. Mind you, with the latest fashion being skinny fit trousers at the moment, I'm having to go a bit further to find what I like here as well.

Well what can I say shopping here is certainly an experience The fashions aren't as dated as I thought they would be as in years behind the UK. I would say maybe 6 months behind if that. I went shopping last week for a few pairs of shorts etc. I am not fussy by any means ie designer labels but OMG it was a hard shop so if you like your bootlegs bring them with you mind you in this heat you won't be wearing them much & shoes are about the same as UK as far as I see.

We've seen alot of posts and heard people slag off the whole clothes issue in Oz and having just returned from visiting the whole east coast on a factfinding mission before we emmigrate, we can quite honestly say there's nothing wrong with the quality, fashion or cost of any of their clothes. It is the same as anywhere really, you just need to explore and shop around abit. You wouldn't pay stupid money for a top from Harrods when you know you can buy exactly the same top around the corner at TK Max for a tenth of the price and the same goes for Oz. We ended up bagging some real bargains especially in Sydney which is supposed to be an expensive place to shop. Alot of people seem to forget that they are moving to a totally different climate in Australia so why would you want to keep up with British fashions when all we do is try to wrap up warm and wear lots of layers. The coldest temp. recorded in Brisbane last year was 18 degrees C !!!!!! You wouldn't even need a jacket in your wardrobe. Hope this has helped.
I thought the clothes were CRAP in Oz.(Perth) They wasnt expensive by any means just poor quality and lacked in fashion. Dont get me wrong im no cat walk model but I have said to my OH Im coming back every 2 years just to stock my wardrobe up. The underwear was awful and very expensive.I buy all mine from primemark and our Ozzie friends thought they were fabulous. I even post my 1 friend underwear and she raves about it.. She carnt beleive how cheap it is 2. Take it all with You is my advice

Sorry but I think if you regard Primark better quality than clothes in Australia - you must think they are really bad !!!! Cos what I've seen of that shop I wouldn't wash the car with the stuff they have - Just my opinion of course.
Been to Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane and found loads of good quality stuff.
I've decided to stock pile clothes.... any sales in Next, H&M, TK etc i'm there buying in clothes for the kids in sizes too big etc i also intend to get lots of underwear and put it all in my shipment.... so at least i have something to see us through until we have found our feet.... mind you in all honestly i have done that sort of shopping for years!!!... i'm always one for a good bargin...as jeans t-shirts and shorts for boys hardley change in style!!
I love fashion , and i always were the new stuff out, but i wont pay megga money for it, as some one said on here primark is cheap and they have some really nice stuff . I am not so worried about the fashion in oz as looking at the ozzie soaps some of the clothes they were are lovely and i will always shop for bargins any way ..... karen

I know you're a sensible lady min so probably won't need reminding but make sure you do cut all the tags off the clothes when packing. Mr Customs man might think its his lucky day if he finds lots of brand new clothes to tax you on when he checks your container!
I also had a shopping spree before leaving - mainly cos the diet had worked and I needed new clothes - but there are some good places to shop here in Melbourne. Chadstone shopping centre is called the 'fashion capital' of Melbourne on some of the adverts, there are a lot of designer shops as well as some of the more affordable shops and I have found lots of clothes in many shops that I would have no problems wearing. DFO are Direct Factory Outlets and have stores that sell fashionable stuff at cheaper prices.

My Mood:
I found the shopping in Melbourne really good a good mix of large departments stores and smaller boutiques
I am not a designer junkie but I do like good clothes
and shoes
and handbags
loads of good shoe shops
I bought my most favourite PINK handbag in a little boutique
I need a larger than average size and found 2 great shops that had a great range of clothes that were much more individual than I can get here, nice crop trousers, smart work trousers, cami tops, sweat shirts etc
and of course Target (a bit like Primark) who stocked over size 16 which was good for what I call my slobby clothes, my sis got a really nice evening top
my teen loved thier underwear and pj's
we found lots of individual shops, which I like and a great Retro shop that kept my teen occupied for hours
oh and a couple of really nice chocolate shops

There must be something wrong with me, either that or I'm just not a fussy person
As well as loving the chocolate here, I actually quite like the clothes too. There is so much to choose from and good prices too. If you like Primark (like me, love a bargain) then Target, Kmart, Best and Less and Big W will suit you down to the ground. Quality is pretty much the same and if you can get a top for $10-$15 who cares if it falls apart after a few months, you get your moneys worth. As for the kids, all the above mentioned shops sell stuff for kids too and for your teenagers there's JayJays, sells boardies and t-shirts cheaply and the teens seem to love it. People in Australia aren't that fashion conscious and they really do not care what you are wearing. They are not judgemental like they are in the UK. I mean I can go out here in my short, thongs, tshirt, hair a mess, no lippy on, and no-one will bat an eyelid!
