Can't Get Into The Xmas Spirit

Hi

Is anyone else new to Australia this year struggling to get organised for xmas I KNOW I AM Normally in the UK I would have done all my xmas shopping by now but I haven't even started its just tooooo hot. I walk into a shop & see xmas decorations etc & I think nah its not happening not in this heat . I would love to hear others stories of your first xmas experiences.

We have only been here a month and only in a house for the last two weeks, so thinking about Christmas has been far from my mind. However, I am just ready to think about it (even in the sunshine and heat) because hopefully our shipment should arrive soon and I know that I will be busy sorting that out rather than Christmas preparations.
It is odd to think that the children are off to the beach for their school Christmas treat.
I have a friend who has been here a couple of years and she says she still is not use to Christmas in the sun!

Before we came here (in August) I always said this would be the hardest thing to get used to hot xmas's mind you I aint complaining but its so weird

Been here a few years now. Don't even bother with the decorations now... its definately more appropriate to the northern hemisphere:)

On Christmas day its a sea food barbie, a couple of bottles of wine and a good chill out... well as far as you can in the high thirties

its funny you say about you cant seem to get into the christmas spirit.this will be our second christmas and really our first proper christmas because we came out in dec 2006 so it was one mad rush.over in the uk the weather used to change,get colder snow was on the way,every shop had christmas decks up in a big way,xmas music was being played,outside the street xmas lights were being put up and switched on.we do miss all of that but we have got used to the different temperature,and they do celebrate christmas over here.we got told that someone in perth {we are finding out where he lives** really goes to town on decorating their home and has an artificial snow machine outside for the kids. aparantly they like children to come round.i will find out where they lives and i will post it here.
remember as long as you have your family around you it doesnt matter where you are in the world xmas will always be the same as it would be if you were in the u.k.

May be you'll be in the spirit after our pre-christmas meet up (and I don't mean the kind in a bottle). It is rather odd I have to agree, although we've done pressie shopping, I still can't get my head around the fact that it's only a few weeks away.

Ali I hope to have all my crimbo shopping done before the meet well thats the plan.

Billy is insisting on cooking the turkey on the barbie hmmm will be interesting. I fancy going for a walk down the beach in the morning just for the simple fact it would never happen in Scotland then chillout for the rest of the day in saying that I think about 10 of us are meeting up it will all be our first christmas in Oz should be good.

Hot Xmas`s are weird to me!! My birthday is Christmas Day and unless it is cold, dark and rainy....it aint right!!
I dont think I will ever get used to being able to sit outside on my birthday without sweatpants and a coat on!

Hi Janette,
I am more organised this year than ever! I took advantage of the Toy sale at Kmart this year and put it all on lay-by, its now all paid for and hidden around the house!
Like you Darren we got here 2 weeks before Xmas last year and that was a nightmare rushing around to get sorted! I would love to find out that guys address too, we are in Port Kennedy not that far from you!
So looking forward this year to Xmas as my fab sister in law arrives to spend it with us, cant wait!!
