Just Had Our First Power Cut

For 2 hours it was 35 Degree today with no air con it was GREAT NOT The neighbour told Billy this happens when it gets too warm THEY cut the power is this true!!!!!

If it is true then why dont they cut the power during the day & not at night when you have to scramble about for the candles

Hi Janette

??????????

I've been in Perth in Feb, when it was far hotter than it is now, and the power stayed on all the time. I'm baffled by your neighbour's theory.

Where I live, the Estate used to be plagued by blinking power cuts. Eventually a neighbour investigated via threatening the Electricity Mob with the Electricity Ombudsman. She discovered that the truth was that these properties are now getting on a bit, and at the time they were built there was far less demand for all the gizmos and gadgets that most of us take for granted today, therefore there was also nowhere near as much of a pull on the power supply as there is now. The whole Estate actually needed a bigger and better mains wire underground, or somethig similar. Anyway, she thumped the table till it was done and we have not had a single power cut ever since. That was about 3 years ago.

Cheers

Gill

I could be wrong but is it not something to do with dust on overhead powerlines or something, when it gets too hot & dry this causes problems and I think it shorts or sometimes catches fire???? I don`t think the power companys actually turn off the power but I might well be wrong.

...just before we left Perth last time it was in the high 30's and we were not allowed to use the air-con otherwise you could be fined..we stayed at my brother's place, so after packing up our stuff in our house and then moving over to my brother's we were absolutely baking and desperate for the air-con!!..

We pay our bills and you order us to not use any “non-essential power” today (i.e. air conditioning, pumps, ovens, microwaves, dryers, washing machines, computers, and probably even life support). You practically shut down half of the industry in Perth and if we didn’t do as we were told you threatened to fine us $1000 to $10,000. Yes, we did what you said, but we are not happy about it.
It’s officially ‘I can’t be bothered Wednesday’, a day in which everyone was grumpy, hot and couldn’t be bothered doing anything. Business’s were shut, pools were full, and western power was hated today. I think it should be made a public holiday to pay tribute to West Australians that had to put up with today’s bull****.

...found this on the web..

I find it hard to believe they cut the power too if they did oh well its going to be a fun summer will need to stock up on the candles.

Its to be 39 in Perth today so we will see if the power goes today.

Pingpom we only had 2 hours without the air con last night & no wonder everyone was grumpy

Its 7am here & i already have the air con on its going to be hot hot hot.

Hi

I dont blame you. Bunnings are doing fans for $9. We only have air con in one room so I have bought fans for everywhere else. As this is only a rental we are in cant do much about it til we get our own house.

It may be because you're living in the hills. I know when we arrived in Jan last year there were adverts on TV about when to use your air con as there had been big power surges with everyone turning it on at the same time.

Got to watch out for the bush fires too.

Ali
