What do you miss most ?

Hi all,

Just thought of something else, apart from the obvious being (family and friends) what do you miss most when you start your new lives in Australia and what are the most significant changes other then the great weather and beaches. Just sitting here thinking about it all and realising that it's not going to be until we get to Australia to live that we will realise how different life will be and wondered what kind of things we may take for granted here in the UK that there may not be in Aus.

The best people I can ask is those of you that have already done it and are living the dream and would love your comments and feedback on this.I apologise if there has been threads on this before.

Thanks again

Jax

Hi Jax..i think it's different for everyone..for me personally it was familiar surroundings..i was in Perth from the age of two to fourteen and then returned with my own family at 36..i expected to just fit in (stupidly) and then realised how strange it is to be in unfamiliar places..it was exciting but sometimes it felt very isolating and i just yearned to be in a familiar street or shop saying hi to people that i knew and had known for years..it was the same for my OH and children and that initial settling time was the most difficult for me..it passed..and in time i was going down a familiar street and saying hi to people i knew..great feeling!!..i belonged..:)

When we first arrived I missed gravy granules but I don't notice now and managed to find a brand I like. I miss being able to go out for a late dinner (not that we did it often,), people go out too early here. I missed not knowing where the best shops were when it came to buying gifts etc., but it's been fun finding out. As PP says, it's the familiarity you miss, but you do adapt and as that becomes familar you feel more settled.

Not missing much now .
Obviously family and friends.

The odd silly thing is missed now and again like "Proper" fish and chips.

Sometimes I miss the banter I had in our business with the customers and suppliers.

There are plenty of new experiences here to take your mind off things though

One thing I also missed was the Chinese take away / chip shop curry sauce.
Until now.................Coles have a curry sauce paste that is not half bad.
Great for a Saturday night nosh up on a pile of chips!!

I think they must be clearing it out as Mrs Tyke has around 20 packets hidden in the pantry!!

What does the packet look like? I've been searching for a good curry sauce for ages.

It's S&B Golden Curry sauce mix.
In a green and gold pack.100g

Medium hot is mild to us.
$2.99 a pack - only small but goes a long way.
Chuck some chicken breast and mushrooms in.
The coles down here in Collonades, south of Adelaide was clearing it.
Hope it's in your nearest store

I'm drooling already.
