.. John my Oh's dad was very poorly in North Shore Hospital in Sydney for a couple of weeks, so we made the decision to go and see him! ..bought the tickets on the thursday and flew out on the saturday. It was worth the trip just to give him a hug and a kiss. he is on the mend now but it is gunna take time. Over half the staff including the doctors and consultants working in the unit were poms!
We had a couple of hours one afternoon to do the touristy thing so went on the ferries in the harbour ... the weather was lovely 35 degrees actually! It was good to be reminded just how friendly everyone is out there! One question for anyone living there already ..WHAT are those trees with the lilacy blue blossom? ... there is nothing like them in England and they are GORGEOUS!!

Thanks for that Jo ... believe it or not NONE of the ozzies I asked actually knew what they were called! ..... its my favourite colour too!
One thing I must say is that the healthcare in australia was very impressive! ..if Johns dad needed tests they were done! ...he had 2 MRI scans done while we were there, not to mention all the other ones, anyone who has waited for a scan here knows the NHS works very differently!

I'm glad to hear that your father in law is getting good care. I don't know if you have been reading the papers here but the Royal North Shore Hospital has been getting really bad press - mostly for its Emergency Department. It's got so bad the government has banned journalists from the place.
I've always found the RNS to be OK, I work right next door. But don't think that Australian public hospitals are always perfect. The staff work wonders but the health department bureaucrats and politicians are something else.
Its funny you should mention those trees but when my sister and I first visited Brisbane - they were the first thing we saw and fell in love with. Can't wait to see them again
