Football Coach

I was l looking through some of the new threads and found one from a young lad who was going out with his parents, he was asking about the standard of soccer in Australia and the leagues.

It got me thinking about coaching and what I could do when we finally go as I'm a UEFA B coach and I would like to use my skills if possible.

Is there anone on the site that is also a football coach who is either going soon or is already over that I could link up with.

Thanks

Hi Mike

If you are thinking of moving to Perth, there are two bits of info I can offer.

One is that we have Members on Poms in Oz (a couple called Billy & Janette) who post as billy braveheart. They have recently moved to Perth and their 12 year old Gary is on a soccer scholarship at school. According to Janette, Gary's school curriciculum is organised round his soccer.

My 13 year old nephew Peter also lives in Perth and is a very keen soccer player.

If you are headed for Perth, then Janette and I can and will put you in touch with the people coaching the two boys.

Try the British Expats forum as well, I suggest. As you say, it would be a huge shame to waste your coaching know-how. If you are willing to do the coaching, more children in Oz want it than you could deal with by yourself, I suspect.

Cheers

Gill

Hi Gill

Thanks for that. Perth is one of the places we are considering.

If you could pass on some details I would be grateful.

Many thanks

Mike

Hi Mike,

I was due to go on my Level 1 coaching course with Bedfordshire FA about 18 months ago but I found out that it was cancelled the day before i was due to go on it! I too, thought that it would be a good qualification to use in Australia. I eventually ran out of time to do my coaching course before we emigrated to the Goldcoast in August. I found that Gold Coast Soccer was a good website with some very useful links. My boys are desperate to play team soccer (as I now have to call it!) but unfortunately, we arrived during the Australian close season so they will now have to wait until January time when teams start training again. I assisted coaching/referring and general assistance with my boys' local club back in the UK. I have enquired about joining the local Palm Beach Soccer club here in Queensland but there is so much competition to get into this and other local sides it is unbelieveable. Most of the local sides have male and female teams in all age groups and put a lot of UK run football clubs to shame. I think the popularity stems from the Socceroos successful run in Germany 2006. My brother-in-law runs a multiple of very successful national 6-a-side football leagues up and down the country back in the UK and I think there is enough demand in the area to use the same format here on the coast and I am currently doing some research into the subject. So if you happen to be heading towards the Gold Coast area of Queensland and think your skills will come in handy give us a call............! Gazzer

Thanks Gazzer

The interview I'm going to tonight is working for a company in Perth so if it goes well I'm going to be heading that way.

I think I'll have to take a look at what's going on as I've mainly been coaching adult sides but I have worked at Swindon Town (for my sins) and Wiltshire centres of excellence and I did enjoy coaching the kids.

It all depends on my job though which is IT project management and the amount of spare time I have but as I said it would be a shame to waste it (and I love coaching).

Have you checked the FA in Australia to see if they put on any coaching courses? I wouldn't bother with the level 1 though as it only shows you how to structure a session and a few other bits, I went straight on to my level 3 if your interested in seeing what you need to do regarding the level 2 let me know and I can send you my portfolio.

I've just take a look at the FFA website and if you go into the directory you should find some course details.

Let me know if I can help at all.

Regards

Mike

Perth Glory could do with a really good coach - I'm sure you couldn't do any worse than what they've got at the moment - send them your CV lol.

Their advertising logo is Share the Glory - we wish!!

Ali

p.s. if you're interested in coaching kids there's grasshopper soccer which coaches children at weekends during term times. Well organised i'm sure they'll have a website.

Hi Mike

I've now spoken with my sister. She lives in Jandakot which is near Ali. It is SE of Fremantle and about 20 minutes from Kings Park. Elaine said that her son Peter plays soccer with Beeliar Soccer Club, Fremantle United and Fremantle Spirit.

Aparently soccer/foorball work a bit differently in Oz than in the UK. Australian Foorball is quite a rough game apparently involving a better than average chance of being injured, Elaine says - sounds like that Amercan game where they all wear crash helmets with wire stuff to protect their faces.

Soccer, apparently, is much less rough. Elaine pointed out that which of the clubs you could coach for depends on which part of Perth you choose to settle in, but she says the clubs have adult teams and kids' teams and that the ones Peter goes to are continually moaning that there are not enough coaches to meet the demand. She says soccer is the fastest growing sport in Australia.

Here are some links which might help your search:

Football Clubs + Perth - Google Search

Soccer Clubs + Perth - Google Search

The trick is to tell Google to look for Google Australia and then tell that to search for pages from Australia.

I'm getting a bit confused with it myself because I don't know which of the two Australian games you would be interested in helping with,

Cheers

Gill

There's nothing wrong with Mitch................ he used to play for Glasgow Rangers amongst others................. he has an excellent track record albeit at NSL level............ and he just motivated Glory to pull off a surprising 4-1 away win against all odds!

A prominent former Perth Glory coach was a VIP client of mine.............. and we are still in touch.

Hi Bob, I posted before they'd sacked the coach - be great if we didn't finish bottom of the league. Made sure my dad went home with a glory shirt after his recent visit.
