Hi wonder if anyone can help. we are looking at brisbane area not sure when yet. even looked as far as towomba. and was wondering if anyone knew about getting a job in child care i have nvq level 2 in child care and education and fisrt aid ect is all up to date. so any information would be really usefull thanks. rach

Hiya i know around this area ABC Childcare centres are screaming for staff at various locations.They are a big concern over here and im sure they have website ,it may tell you what qualifications you require,,hope this helps a bit

ABC Childcare have been copping a lot of flak just lately.......... not too sure if it's justified or not? The guy who owns the whole kit and caboodle must be laughing all the way to the bank............ just blink and a massive ABC childcare centre sprouts up on the corner here in Perth.............. they are everywhere! I'd say he needs to go into damage control because his company image is taking quite a beating of late!

Heres a link Rachel................ people who have worked for them before and who have first hand experience about how they operate aren't too complimentary about them? Whether the flak is warranted or not ............... well I don't know?

There was something on TV a while ago how one poor kiddy got left in a cot while all the staff chugged off home?............... then another one about how a wee toddler walked through a gate and was let out into traffic on his own? Pretty sure both centres were under the ABC umbrella........... received heaps of adverse publicity here in the west?

thanks bobcat will look into it. i am looking for a small run pre-school /kindergarten but am open to anything. will keep in mind what you have said but i will only take a job if i think the place is good. and always ask myself would i send my child there. i do the job i do because i love working with children i also help at the local school listening to the children read as most of them dont get much oppertunity. i do feel guilty when i cant go in as i fell i am letting the children down. (just too soppy me) thanks again for your info. rach

My wife did a childcare course here in Perth................ it was run by Skillshare and was supposed to offer a qualification similar standard to TAFE. They found her employment too once she qualified ............... but it turned out to be slave labour for what was expected of all who were on the course with her.

She loves kids and is very good with them............ and would have probably worked there for nowt as she really enjoys working with kids............ but there was a lot of pressure .......... a lot of hassles so she didn't stick at it too long........... the timing was all wrong too because we had three little ones of our own to bring up too.

She used to help out at the local kindy and pre-primary as the teachers are really rushed off their feet............ they do rely heavily on parental volunteers .......... and for some reason there is always a shortage of funding? We seemed to be forever putting our hands into our pockets for some sort of fund raising venture............. don't know if it's still the same as our 3 boys are all grown up now......... well they think they are

The link I gave you relates to staffing problems from a couple of years ago with the ABC branding........... you'll see that several other staff members were full of praise for ABC ........... so it's good to get some balance? The problems I quoted which I saw on TV documentaries were fairly recent so I'd hazard a guess the problems with the system weren't solved ............ and they went on to become much more widespread?

In fairness to the head honcho........... he did have the guts to front the camera ......... and he seemed pretty switched on ............ very sound business mind ........... certainly has his finger on the pulse when it comes to making money. The government were on about holding a probe into the company.............. not sure how that went?
