Yep!!! this is a common problem I'm afraid. A small number of times I've been accused of not paying a bill and threatened with debt collectors... so far its always been a cock-up with the business entity. The first time I lose it... no doubt it will turn out to be my mistake. :)
Anyway makes no difference its up to you to prove that you've paid... can be hard work since the business never assumes its their error and would never admit it if things got too far I suspect?
Reached one stage once where a business insisted I sent them my bank statement to prove payment... I said I'd send my bank statement on receipt of their bank statements.... apparently that's being unreasonable?
It's a good job you stayed on line too... that was probably a ruse to get rid of a problem (meaning you!).
Don't know if it's a particular problem with Australian businesses though? Would have thought its pretty universal these days with automated systems?
