Eleven days to go!!

I can't quite believe it but I leave a week on Friday.

Having my friends round on Friday night and on Sat I leave my house (forever) for the last week at my Mum and Dad's. The house isn't sold so my sister has power of attorney and instructions of what to sell on ebay and what to pass onto the Sally Army. Someone did make an offer but it was £10k under the asking price and I have just reduced it. It looks like it is going to be the albatross round my neck!

They changed the flights from Manchester so I leave from my Mum and Dad's at 2 o'clock in the morning. A quickie flight to Heathrow and then a wait of three and a half hours. Then 12 hrs to LA, a three hr wait and an hours flight to Las Vegas. It's going to take the whole 4 day stopover to get over that journey. Then back to LA and onto Brisbane via Auckland.

I tried sending my CV to schools direct but got very little response. I can't see anything on the jobs on line website and they're very scarce on the other websites I've looked at. It looks like I will be looking for an any kind of job especially with the summer hols coming up. I think I might have a go at the Wed lottery and Euro millions this week as well as Saturdays!

I'm sorry that I sound so negative but the reality of starting a new life by myself at the other side of the world is beginning to loom very large. This is something I have planned for for so long but I have to admit that if I was offered my old job back tomorrow, I would be very tempted to take it - apart from my Dad actually killing me!

If anybody's got any reassurances out there for me, I think this is the time to send them forth!

Rebecca

Well done Rebbecca, its just last minit nerves, you wouldn't have started this journey if you didn't think you were doing the right thing, dont give up now, I went to OZ a long time ago all by meself working holiday visa, didnt get edgie till I was at the airport, my sister was fussin and that set me off, stayed over there for around 18months BEST TIME ever, Ive always dreamed of being able to live there permantly, up until 3months ago,My hubby, me and our little one, had always thought we could never go, how wrong we were, so our journey is just begining, and I will do anything, knock on every door, block the telephone lines, get every piece of advice we need to get us there, how long it will take ??? who knows, I wont give up until we've exhausted every option, you've got eleven days DONT GIVE UP NOW GIRL, live your dream,
wishing u love luck and happiness, Theresa.

You`ll be right!

We flew via the States as you get a great baggage allowance which is dead handy when emigrating!

You`ll have a great time in Vegas? Ever been there???? 4 days isnt long enough! You`ll have to go back for another trip!!!!

Last minute nerves are normal! Leaving people is rotten but once your bum hits that plane seat, think of the new life you have!

Brissie is great. Im from East london and I have lived here since Feb 2005~

You'll be as right as rain.

I first ventured down-under all on my own with just a back-pack on many years ago....... before too long you'll have heaps of friends.................... you are going to be so glad you didn't change your mind and stay over there.

Good luck.

Hi,

I can understand why you are worried, it is a huge and scary thing! You'll be fine though! I have friends who have just come back from spending a year in Oz travelling round, they found work everywhere they went...'you just have to be willing' were their words.

I am sure there will be a better chance of work once you are out there. When we over there everyone was telling us that it's much easier to get work there than from abroad, so dont panic I'm sure it's all going to work out great!

As for Vegas, have a great time!!

Lou

Hi Rebecca

I'm heading off in just over four weeks, also alone, and aged 60, so I sort of know how you feel. I think you'll be fine...most people are. It's just the bit before you go which is so sad and so painful. I'm telling myself once I'm actually on the plane I will be OK, and I bet you will be too. And your stopover sounds brilliant! Hang on there.

Nico
