I have plainly got hay-fever at the minute. I had it six months ago when the weather turned fair. I have not had it since because of the near-constant train. The ground is now dry, the sun is out and I can't stop sneezing so the pollen count must be high - in late October!
I feel a bit irritable because my nose is running and my eyes are itchy and sore.
Something has definitely Gone Wrong with the climate....

Funny you should say that fatpom cos my daughter and I have noticed the same thing! We were both really bad hayfever sufferers in England and when we arrived in Sydney last September thought we'd end up getting hayfever twice that year having been through it during the English summer....but nothing! So far this spring we've been ok too......weird! However, my daughter has VERY bad reactions to mozzie bites and I think she would gladly trade that for a bit of hayfever...

I've lived in three other places since and I got/get hayfever in these places, but not Sydney? Central West NSW was very very bad for almost four months. A lot of people there just stock up on anti-hists and brace themselves for the onslaught.
As for mozzies the trick is avoidance. Many believe the bite is the lesser of two evils over the chemical sprays. Must admit always have some spray stored in car and home.
I remember now we got terrible bites on arrival whilst the aussies who were sat with us couldn't see what the fuss was all about (till next morning).
Don't get bitten much now but the bites are less troublesome anyway?
My daughter ended up having to go to hospital last year with a bad reaction from mozzie bites, she swells up and they go really red and she feels ill with it. They gave her strong steriods and cream and recommended she use a strong spray when she goes outdoors - I'm not happy about the sprays as they contain DEET but what's the alternative!? It's hard to avoid the little blighters as they're everywhere and you often don't even realise they are eating you!

Good mozzie management is probably a good start... know when to go inside.
If you plan to have a session outside under the covered patio (say?) get the citrus oil burning early on... a good hour before sundown. Don't sit near bushes and foliage. There are some DEETless sprays I think??? Check out Aeroguard???? After that, good luck.
Just remembered, sometimes its not the mozzie that bites. There's something else (a midge maybe?) which you can't see. The good thing is they do seem to hate citrus oil lamps or candles. Get the candles on the floor ideally under the table (if its safe to do) so the smoke permeates up around your legs.
When I said Citrus I should of said Citronella. Doh!
Go and live in Sydney... its the only place I've been totally free of it. God knows why???
Wow you lucky things! I've been in Sydney since April, I had hayfever for about a month when I arrived, and now have had it again for the past 3 weeks or so!
I have to say it's not as bad as in the UK as it doesn't affect my asthma and rarely affects my eyes, but I have had a constant blocked/runny nose for nearly a month! Hopefully it will go away soon, I'm doing my best to get myself used to it and not take any of those nasty pills...
As for mozzies I've heard that Aeroguard is very good, although don't know what's in it!

October to April?... that's possibly going to be seven months... you poor bastard.
Yes, the pills just dulled my already feeble mind but what do you do?
oh no not constantly (I hope it won't be anyway!!) just for a month in April and then again for another month in October... if it carries on all the way from now until April I don't think I'll be able to last without the pills!!
