Been Here Nearly 3 Weeks!!!

Hi all,

Haven't been on here for a while, what with the shippers coming, having loads to do, time has just flown by.

We got here in Perth on 2nd October. Weather has been really good, few rainy days but by no means cold. David got me to change my driving licence straight away which after the fact was a daft thing to do. You have 3 months to change it and it is only a form to fill in and a quick eye test. As I did mine straight away, I now have the holiday rental address on it and then have to fill in another form to change it to our permanent address.

House hunting has been a bit of a nightmare. We have seen quite a few, either they were not suitable or not available for when we wanted it. We also changed our minds on the area we wanted to settle down in which didn't help. We originally opted for Butler which is lovely, but after we had kept driving up that way to look at houses it just seemed a bit too far for David and his work which would be closer to the city. We actually got accepted on a house in Butler but had to pull out as it wasn't available till 3 days after we have to be out of our holiday rental.

We have now chosen Ashby to settle in as it comes under the catchment area for Tapping school. We are due to sign a lease on a house tomorrow and then hopefully get the keys straight away.

If I was to do it all again, I would have booked smaller holiday accommodation, this house has 5 bedrooms and a pool, thing is we really have only used it as a base and only 2 of the bedrooms, been out all the time either looking at houses, cars etc. The pool is lovely but it has been too cold to use.

David has started working at a Hotel in the Vineries. He is only working for a temping agency at the moment as he doesn't want a permanent commitment until we are settled in a house and all our stuff arrives. There is plenty of work for him though, so that is good.

He is still waiting for his tax file number, can take up to 4 weeks apparently. If he doesn't get it soon he will have to pay 46% tax and then wait to claim it back.

Anyway, that is all for now.

Sarah

Hi Sarah,
I have recently changed my address on my driving licence and I did it online, they will send you out a sticker with your new address on it to put at the back of your licence, no charge either unless you want a complete new one! Just log onto www.dpi.wa.gov.au/licensing, then click on online services. Hope this helps.

Hi, we changed our address on line too and just got sent a little sticker to put over it, glad to hear you're settling in and enjoying it - hopefully the rain will stop.

Glad you are doing well. We are renting in Mindarie and I am able to walk the kids to school which is great.

Most things can be done online or by phone to save time and we got our tax file number by going into the city a few years ago if I can remember right and it was printed off for us.

God I cannot believe you are there already how time has flown, we thought we would be there in November but looks more like jan/feb. We are looking at the Mindarie area but keep thinking about moving inland a bit cause looks like you get more for your money?

Glad you have settled in and all the best in your new life in Oz.

Marina.
