MRSA in Oz ??

Listening to the news today I was wondering what the stat's are for Australian hospitals?

I would assume that these superbugs rear thier ugly heads over there but is the problem worse, the same or better?
I would be very worried if any of my family or I went in to hospital here

It is easy to UK bash when we hear stories like this but I would like to know what the situation is over there.

Depends where you live

MRSA rates vary widely between hospitals 5 to 50% - see this report in our infectious disease journal Communicable Disease Intelligence [click here]: Not sure what the rates are in the UK but it's getting worse here - the big worry is community acquired MRSA.There are also some worrying multiresistant gram negative infections.
