what to take

I know we are no where near yet, havnt even got TRA ready yet, not to much longer for that bit master pieces in progress (references)

But what did people that are there take with them

and what are people that are going taking with them

Is it worth taking things such as washing machines, driers, sofas, frezzers, bikes, tents, roof box ect, could go on but i wont gets abit worrying when you start to list all the things you would like to take with you.

So any advise,

TO TAKE OR NOT TO TAKE THAT IS THE QUESTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi
We brought just about everything we could with us when we came here over two years ago, and we are glad we did, it made us and the kids settle better having our own things around us, plus the first few months of getting here was non stop and the last thing we wanted to do was go shopping for new things for the house.
good luck with the TRA
x

Is there any problems with electrical goods, such as washing machines, toasters, kettles, TV's etc. We have a removals company clearing the house into a container in 3 weeks and we're pretty much bringing the lot.

Hi T & P I think this is quite a difficult on to answer as it can vary so much depending on your own personal situation. You have to weigh up how much it would cost to totally or partially refurnish your new house against shipping cost etc, which prabably average out around £3-4K as well as how much cash you will be taking out with you. Also bare in mind that not everything is always cheaper, for example white goods for example appear to be cheaper in the UK than in Oz, you'll need to budget that factor in too.
Personally, we will be taking most of our possessions with us, but as our sofas are definately past it we will buy new over there. So sorry I can't be more helpful, but if you have a search on PiO there are many threads already posted about this dilemma - happy searching!

Hi Tracey & Peter,
Have you tried looking up some of the store's over here for prices for things like, Harvey Norman store, or the Good Guys or big W, just to name a few store's, it would give you an idea what you would pay for things over here.
Most of these stores have an on line catalogue for you to veiw.
x

We brought everything, washer and dryer, vac, etc etc. full 20 foot container, it has been nice having familiar objects around us mixed with the new stuff. We've also not had to panic buy because we've needed something. We would not have been able to buy the stuff we brought with us for what it cost for the container.

We have had to buys new stuff - Sofa, patio dining table and barbie, and fridge freezer. We've bought new bedroom furniture for us and the double bed we brought with us is now in the spare room.

Ali

Smile What not to take!!

Being in the middle of ynpacking boxes on the sunshine coast, we bought nearly everything and glad we did as it is really homely and you will still need to but alot of extras as the houses are bigger and when you get here before your container you will probably buy things like beds, cutlery plates (we bought cheap bits to tied us over) Back to what i wish we hadn't bought.....All the clothes we have bought jumpers, long trousers, t shirts etc, we bought our best stuff in the suitcase and have bought clothes since being here as all are very reasonable so when the box's came we will be sending most of it to the charity shop apart from a couple of suits and dresses. We all just live in shorts and t shirts so all the kids trackies etc are nul and void...they just want surf stuff now. Also bought so much paperwork that i am sure that if i had of sorted it earlier we wouldn't have needed it' Also most houses have built in wardrobes in every room but you will still need draws or dressing table etc.
My advice is START early with your sorting out which goes for paperwork, tools clothes etc so you only have what you need. It is great when all your stuff comes. good luck
