We were paying between $1.12 & $1.19 last week, on average it cost us about £20 to fill the car up! Cracking, especially as it has just cost me £50 today in the uk!
Hi Michelle,
I paid $1.12 yesterday - petrol varies almost on a daily basis and it's cheaper in Queensland than here in Sydney as Qld doesn't pay tax on it (or less tax, can't remember which!). It has gone up here though as I remember when I was out here on holiday about 3 years ago it was below the $1 mark but it's nowhere near as expensive and in England. Also when you shop at supermarkets if you spend over $30 you always get a voucher at the bottom of your till receipt for 4c per litre off your petrol.
Karen
I filled up at safeway last night and paid $1.10, it would have been $1.14 but I had a 4c voucher. It only takes a dollar or so off but when you have a 65 litre fuel tank like mine those few dollars count! Tuesdays are the best days to fill up - the fuel is cheaper!
the RACV website also has a fuel watch section on it.

The price of fuel is invariably cheaper in the capital cities Perth, Bris, Melb & Sydney etc. than it is in the smaller regional towns within OZ - it tends to be a good $0.10 more expensive AND we don't get the benefit of the supermarket subsidies in the form of discount coupons.
Australia has a lower tax margin on alcohol too, we can get scotch cheaper here than you can buy it from the distillery door .
