Anyone moved from NZ to OZ?

I found this fantastic forum whilst googling for information about moving from NZ to OZ.

We're from the UK and have been in NZ for a couple of years, a recent promotion has resulted in my partner being relocated to Brisbane. We've got an offer on our house, will be leaving as soon as it goes unconditional and we've got a removals company sorted out. It's going to be quite costly, most of the quotes we have are coming back at $13,000 NZ! (which has really surprised me) and our moving allowance goes nowhere near it.

I'd really love to hear about anybody else's experiences of moving between the two countries, specially about the moving process - what shippers/packers you used between NZ and Oz, types of stuff you took with you, fumigation and other charges, taking pets, getting money across etc.

how have you found it in NZ, we are planing to move to melbourne, just started the process, my husbands an electrecian/engineer so were going for skilled visa.

But my husband has now been offered a job in NZ good job not sure of the location as lots of sites apparently, if we accept we to would be there for 1-2 years and then would go to oz and carry on with visa process from NZ.

Do you have children we have 3 boys 7 5 3 years.

We applied to migrate to Australia but were turned down and ended up in New Zealand instead. We spent five years in Auckland and really enjoyed it. When kids came along we moved to Sydney on our new NZ passports - mainly because of the better job opportunities.
We like Australia for its more multicultural and diverse society, not to mention the greater opportunities and wider range of cultural activities. Having said that, I miss the wild beauty of New Zealand - especially areas like the Coromandel and the skifields. Can't give any advice about the moving process as we literally had nothing when we left and arrived in Australia with just backpacks.
I keep meaning to go back to NZ - especially the South Island.

Hi, yes NZ is a lovely country - can't fault it for the scenery and the sense of community. The Kiwis take the rip out of us poms a lot more than the Ozzies do though.

Can't believe it though how expensive it is to leave NZ, costs more than it did to ship our stuff from the UK ( and labour costs are lower here )

After emailing AQIS I've decided to take most of our stuff with us -garden furniture, BBQ etc. we just need to make sure they're properly cleaned and free of dirt and pests.

Would love to hear from anyone who's made the move across the Tasmin though, there must be loads of us out there
