Qantas

We were just wondering if any of you have flown from the UK with Qantas when emigrating.
Hifx have a promotion with Qantas for discounted flights ect.
We were just wondering about how any of you found the Quality of service, inflight entertainment, meals etc.& how they were with kids.

Would you recommend.

Hope you can help

Neil,Tracey & Hayleigh...

I would recommend Qantas, we have flown with them many times and also a good many other airlines and they compare favourably. The in-flight entertainment is as good as you could wish, with dozens of films and a whole host of other stations to keep you entertained. The food is "typical" airline food, either you love it or loath it, personally I don't mind it and it is usually good enough with Qantas. Can't comment on the kids bit though, although I have never seen them eject any when we've been flying, so I guess they are child friendly.

Eric.

Qantas

They are ok similar to BA and have a shared route agreement with BA, however flights going east only get a 20kgs allowance plus whatever extra HIFX give you, have a look at what BA/QF will charge for a ticket going westbound and connecting with a Qantas flight in the USA as your allowance is the 2 piece baggage system all the way through to Oz which will give you 64kgs per person. I used Air New Zealand via Los Angeles who use brand new 777s and the food and screens in every seat were superb also the price was good. I made a number of stop overs and still got the 2 piece system all the way as my tkt was routed westbound via USA, I have also read on this site people have had more than 2 pieces of luggage and the excess on the 3rd piece is much cheaper than the excess on the price per KG going eastbound and you can cram in 32kgs in each piece of luggage.

We flew qantas on our way here and for past holidays here and couldn't fault them.
The inflight entertainment was very good. They had the on demand system so you didn't have to wait for things to start, you just watched whatever, whenever.
We came the U.S way round. The flight from the UK was with BA.
This was ok. The bonus being we were able to fly from Gatwick and not Heathrow.
We used Travelmood to do all our booking for us and they got us a better deal than if we went direct to the airline.

My dad flew to Brisbane with Quantas a couple of years ago and said they were very good, but he had to go to London with BA first and said they were rubbish. He's recently flown with Emirates but did like Quantas better

Thanks everyone for taking the time to reply. Thats a few more pages for the old migrating folder!!

We'll have to do some proper pricing up when the time comes.

Mansfiea is correct, Australians voted QANTAS the worst international airline and Singapore Airlines the best. As we say, Singapore, Australia's favourite airline, and great service, especially with kids, elderly and infirm.

QANTAS like BA are always cutting costs and services....

Personally, after Singapore, when flying Europe to Oz, like most others recommend: Cathay Pacific, Emirates and Thai, Malaysian is very good these days......they all understand what service is, and deliver :)

Hi Andrew

I completely agree with you and we always stick with Singapore Airlines, but SURELY Quantas are not worse than BA? Nobody could be worse than BA, surely?!!!

Cheers

Gill

I agree with the above. I flew once with Qantas, and that was enough for me. Try any of the Far East airlines or Emirates. SIA has always been one of the world's best airlines. I am not sure about the pricing but I suspect Qantas or BA will not come anywhere cheaper than SIA.
