refund of bank charges..do it!!

Anyone thinking of applying for refunds on bank charges and cant be bothered with the hassle...do it!!

This morning we received a letter from our bank offering us £1150 as a "goodwill gesture"

All we did was send 1 letter asking and we got it, my hubby is brilliant, I dont think I tell him enough

I claimed back £140 from FD.
Before pursuing any claims though read this as things could just about to change

Thanks guys we are with the cooperative bank.

The bank charges are if you go overdrawn over your agreed amount, even buy a few pence.

Hubby went self employed for a while and unfortunately we had very bad payers and we went overdrawn a bit, the charges the bank were charging we way over what general admin costs so they had to refund. We cant be bothered with the hassle so OH returned to being an employee.

We have known a few people who have done it all with the same result.

You are allowed to go back as far as 6 years to recoup any charges.

You can clam back mortgage settlement charges too.

I.E if you were over charged when you paid of 1 mort to start another with a new mort company.
The standard should be around £50 (i think ), some people have had to pay more than £200. therefore they have to refund the difference. Some of them its just a phone call and hey presto you're money back.

The charges are for what the bank charge for exceeding your agreed overdraft limit, bouncing a cheque or unpaid DD's.
You can't claim the charges for having an over draft, just for exceeding it (i.e £30 - £35 a time)- minus what they can actually charge you (coupla quid) plus interest.

Hi

I work for a bank and today we have been told that NO further bank charges will be refunded until the result of the current court case between the OFT and some major banks is known.

They are not expecting a result for up to 12 months and customers will be sent a holding letter as agreed by the FSA that states that a decision will be made when the court case has finished and the decision known.

Any offers that have been made already will be honored. It's definately worth writing in but you may not get it resolved quickly.

Hubby found out earlier tonight that they have put a stop on them as of last Friday, our letter was dated the Thursday, how close were we.
