We're bringing loads, the houses here have much more floor space and it would certainly cost more than it's cost us to ship stuff to furnish a house. Most houses have a family and formal lounge, family and formal meal areas. We had integrated appliances in the UK so are going to need to buy a fridge, barbecue, outdoor furniture, double and single beds, sofa and TV and some bedroom furniture (it was all fitted in UK). just to start with.

For us it's been more cost effective to bring things.

As for Jo & Hays.......
Im well up for it but my OH said give us plenty of notice, so he can make arrangement to be away...!!!!!
The mention of IKEA and crazy women in the same sentence would just about tip him over the edge....

Thumbs up

There are a few things I would have done differently and, one of them, is that I would have shipped THE LOT AND MORE!!! I think we wasted a lot of money when we got here on stuff that I had left behind... I wish we had paid the little bit extra on a 40' container and filled it!

I've seen so many posts over the 2 years that I've been researching our move and the general consensus has been 'take as much stuff with you as you can'. Things are expensive in Oz, especially electrical items.

I've even cleared out the airing cupboard and bagged up stuff that I would probably have chucked before the move but apparently bedding, towels, etc are expensive so I've kept them all as they will do us a turn while we get settled.

We will have to dump some things like the kids bunkbeds which are falling apart, the freezer and fridges as they are simply too old. The washing machine we'll bring as its new, the tumble, hoover, PC and other electrical stuff we'll be shipping too.

Its worth remembering that UK TVs wont work in Oz, except to watch DVDs & Videos or for use with the playstation, Xbox etc.

The bottom line is we'll bring as much as we can fit in the container and get rid of it there if its not needed.

K x

p.s. top tip: buy some 4 or more socket extension leads to take as you then only have to change one plug - Oz plugs are different to UK plugs and everything will eventually need re-plugging (hmmm is that a real word ?!!! lol)

***Alternatively, you can do what we did and go to an electrical wholesaler, bought 30 Aussie plugs (bulk discount!) and had a session changing them over!..

Ikea in Logan 10 mins south of Brizzy just off the highway.
Only been open about 5 months.
The wife costs me a fortune every time she utters that horrible Swedish word!

Steve you learn quick. I recommend many more Friday nights in the chat room, that will hopefully help you understand more of the ways of a woman. Don't ever expect to know them all though LOL My OH reckons we change the rules just as you get used to them.

I am well trained in the ways of women.
i have 3 younger sisters (so always been in a minority.
now have 4 females here (i wife 3 daughters)

i have been henpecked most of my life.

As for you lot changing the rules, well thats about right, except you don"t see it as changing the rules, more a case of us men not listening properly in the first place ....(as if had a choice ....)
