We are flying to Aus 18th Febuary. I'm wondering before I start working as a plumber do I need to take any courses of join any trade organiations.
Or can I start work straight away.
Hi............
Just to wish you the best of luck when you land in Oz in Feb.
Me, my hubby and 4 kids will be out in one the Melbourne suburbs later on this year (if all goes well, fingers and legs crossed!) and as my old man is a Plumber too, obviously he has the same questions and queries as you and he would love to hear how you get on out there, and what "the score is" so to speak.
All the best :D
I think the work aspect is my main worry in our move to Aus. Not really sure what to exspect and how much we can earn out there. I wish you all well and hope your husband finds it easy to settle into work. If you email me I 'll try to feel you in once I know anything. We fly out 18th Febuary and I suppose it'll take a while to find and settle into work
Hi John,
Thanks for the prompt reply............ I take it your going out on the Independant visa so we wish you all the best with the job hunting and look forward to hearing how well your doing in the sun & pinching any inside information you may have to share with us all
Regards Jonsey & gang
yes I have an Independant visa so ware we end up is ware we end up. the good thing is I try to judge how much work is about before we settle. When you planning on going?
HIYA.............
My other half will be out on the independant visa too - but were heading to the Melbourne area (call us mad but we still like the seasons !) We have not long put in the full application so could be out there Sept/Oct. onwards, but who knows, as long as I can get my kids into school by the end of January 2008 for their school year (all 4 of the little darlings!) but it all depends on so many things..... mainly selling our house. Not going to get too uptight about things, and you've got the right attitude - go with the flow - it certainly will be an adventure for all of us!!!
Anyway, i'll say bye for now as im going on a bit, so good luck again and hope it all works out well, and I will look forward to any updates you have.........
Cheers - Jonsey & the gang :P

Hi all,
Hope that you don't mind me butting in on your conversation. My hubby is a plumber/gas fitter so we are also wondering how easy it will be to find work with a reasonable salary!
We are still trying desparately to put our TRA together, there is just one piece of the puzzle missing and it's the most important one!! The company that he had his apprenticeship with have merged with other companies about four times so apparently do don't have any information going as far back as twenty years - can only get to speak to someone in admin who is very rude and unhelpful. Now need to find a needle in a hay stack - someone who worked with Ricky and who will take the time to give us a ref!
Hopefully, this is the worst bit of the appliation and once it comes together we can relax, that is until it comes to selling our house! Trying not to get down about it all as we know that it will be worth it in the end and it is great knowing that we can come onto this site and be re-assured by people that have been in the same boat.
Will also be interested in how you get on in your job search once you arrive, will continue to watch this space!
Wishing you lots of luck on your journeys.

Jonseywife again...........
As for Julie&Ricky's dilema, we had the same problem (hubby done his apprenticeship 325 years ago!!!!!!! It was really 25years but it might well as been, the trouble was had tracing documents!!!!)
If all else fails you can do what we done, and wrote a Statutory Declaration to cover the lack of proof of starting the apprenticeship, (although we did have the completion certificate.)
Another thing we had to do, as the company my hubby finished his apprenticeship with, went bust, so we done a "company search" to get proof that the company actually existed - so it confirms your story.
It worked for us...... In our experience the TRA was the most time consuming & complicated thing out of all the forms, so hang on in there. Then you have to play the waiting game!! But that another subject altogether!!!
Good luck, and I will keep watching this space too... :)
