some advice or info needed please !!!!!!!

Hi everyone,

Like many people Im confused as to which visa and all the info which one minute seems to make sense then confuses me so advice please ..

My mum was born in Aus in 1952 and moved to uk when she was five, my grand parents were not citizens of Australia apparently.
Seeing that my mum has an Australian birth certificate can this help me apply to migrate to Australia. I have read info on citizenship by decent but not sure if qualify or not. Any info at all would be great. Also does anyone know if you apply for a visa and its not successful can you apply for a different one for eg sponsorship as have family out there.
