The worst thing about coming to Oz...

What's the worst bit about coming to Australia - the plane trip over with young kids!

It's been a while since I made the maiden voyage, with my 80kgs, stroller, car seat and 2 kids in tow, but the memory of it still haunts me to this day! Now our holiday is looming and the only bit I'm not overly excited about is trying to shoe horn my 3 year old into his seat and hoping he'll sleep for the duration of the flight - some hope!
For all those parents out there who have ever flown the incredibly stressful and unfriendly skies, this one might make you smile - or at least remind you why planes and small children are the equivalent to oil and water!

That was a very funny read I have to say a big well done to you for getting through that; I really don't know how parents manage on long-haul flights and each time I've flown between the UK and Australia, the kids on-board have been as good as gold.

Best of luck for the next trip

Thanks! I'm thinking lots of cough medicine and some ear plugs for myself. Either that or I shall get my seat in a separate row and leave them with my hubby!

I am ex cabin crew ( many moons ago before the kids arrived), I can remember some of the flights - and they dont have to be long haul either, some kids are bloody sods on planes - but thats down to their parents! take plenty to keep them occupied, failing that piriton liquid (antihystimine) is fab for a short term knock out job. Take plenty of sweets ( sod their teeth - take the tooth paste and toothbrush - they have sinks in the loo's)

Have a stiff drink - kids are not that bad when you have had a few...........can you guess what my flights are like lol

Lol, funny and spot on, and for me, perfect timing because of all the the things related in going back to the U.K it`s this I`m suddenly most anxious about!!! That`s so true about fellow travellers sizing you up...when we flew out here with just the one child (we now have four) I remember the looks............but having said that I suppose I used to do the same and am more than guilty in the past of thinking, God I wish that kid would shut up! !!! I did suggest to my wife, in a very subtle way, that maybe I should fly out first to `make some preparations` and take 2 with me (namely, the two with DS`s who would give me the least trouble!) but it didn`t go down too well...

That was a really funny read. I know what you mean about kids on planes - I have never done a very long haul - just 10 hrs with a baby and 4yr old.. Hoping the noise cancelling headphones and the films etc keep my older 2 happy this time.. Not sure what they are going to eat though!
