Just any help in general please!

      Hi All

Just doing some research whilst waiting for my 176 to come through. Does anyone have any suggestions as to the cheapest way to get clothing/shoes/bags etc. to Oz? Even though I will be skillfully sifting through the mountains we have I still want to take quite a lot and four suitcases just won't do the job! Wanting to take a suitcase each with us when we fly but looking to send rest of stuff by post/courier, any help would be fab.

Also does anyone have any recommendations as to cheap, fab flight stopovers? Am trying to get hubby to treat me to a few nights somewhere with white sands and blue seas after all the stress of trying to get to Oz, but don't want to end up somewhere dodgy and costing a fortune as we have never been to that side of the world before and don't know much about these places. Looking for Thailand, Indonesia, etc. And along those lines what are the best and cheapest airlines to fly with? Husband has long legs and isn't looking forward to approx 3 inches of legroom on a longhaul flight, ha ha!

      Thanks in advance!

      Hi Angela,

I work at Gatwick and I've also worked at Heathrow, at both airports there is a company called "Excess Baggage Company" you can arrange thru them for any excess baggage to be shipped out, I'm not sure how much it is but its cheaper that paying the airline charge the only thing is it takes longer as its shipped out there.

      Hope this helps

Hi, after reading something on here about IOM Australia - Projects Some people saying they didnt do flights etc I checked them out and emailed them (even though I havent applied for my visa yet lol) This is the reply. I have not got a quote myself as I obviously dont qualify and am not going any time soon not having even applied for my spouse visa. But it might help you...

Thank you very much for your inquiry.

For new migrants coming to Australia with skilled migration visa or any permanent visa, IOM offers discounted fares and concessional baggage allowance on some carriers covered under IOM global agreement operating from/to Australia.

Please note that we can avail our concession fares and baggage allowance for the travel booked through IOM. Please also note that IOM Australia assists one-way travel to the immigration country. This means that we cannot assist any return trip.

Also, please note voluntary stop-over is not permitted for the IOM migrants' fare.

The baggage allowance only applies to personal luggage. If you wish to move items by freight or cargo, or if you wish to take your pets, please contact Australian Customs Services at www.customs.gov.au.

In order to give you a travel quote please specify:

-Number of passengers (please provide the age if your family includes children under 12 years old)
      -the city of departure
-the city of arrival in Australia
      -Preferred departure month

Please note that the costing may change due to airfare increases or currency exchange rate fluctuations. Therefore, IOM will advise you of the exact cost after the actual airline booking has been made.

IOM cannot make travel arrangements until all Australian Immigration requirements have been met and visas and passports issued for each person traveling. Please ensure that you have all the necessary visas before your departure.

Payment: There are a number of ways that payment can be made. The preferred method of payment is through telegraphic transfer directly to IOM Canberra (in USD). We cannot accept the payment by credit card or personal cheque.

If you have a friend or relative in Australia who can pay IOM Canberra on your behalf either by electronic transfer, or by bank cheque or money order sent to IOM Canberra. If these options are not suitable, IOM Canberra can arrange for payment to be made to an IOM Office closest to you.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further queries regarding IOM-assisted travel.

      Best regards,

      IOM Australia

      Thier email :-
IOMAustralia@IOM.INT which is also on their web site.

Hi Angela, for 22k of luggage eg. London -Perth with Excess it is around £176.00 (air freight) so basically thats a suitcase but you will receive this quickly.
SevenSeas (sea freight) for 40k is approx £160.
IMHO I think you have to be vigilent in Indonesia and Bali, more warnings have been given to Australia. Thailand at present has its own set of problems with an unpredictable political situation, personally I would be opting for somewhere like Singapore,HongKong even Dubai. Maybe you can get a special deal with a stopover from a travel agent. From experience a planned stop over is classed as another leg hence more expensive. Leg room would depend on the airline. Seehttp://www.seatguru.com/ they will give you details on seating on most airlines. PM me if you require any further help.

      Hi Angela,

We recently shipped over 6 tea chest cartons (18cu/ft) excess baggage eg kids toys and bits and pieces. For door to door it cost us £350.....We used Anglo Pacific. They sent us the boxes we packed them then they couried them to the port. We are still waiting for them to arrive so not sure if they made it safe but it was the cheapest option for us. Hope this helps.
