Went to rainbow beach today

Last time i went here was 2003, stayed in gympie and used to drive there to fish for flathead.

Went today as its about as close as i could get to cyclone hamish, took this piccy on my phone, don't think it really does justice to the size of the swell and waves!!!! they were huge!!!! and the wind was pretty crazy, really had to lean into it and some gust really pushed me back.

Sad thing is, last time i was here the beach was lovely!!

Now look at the sand in this piccy! don't know whether the storm is pushing in oil from the wrecks around the area but the whole beach is just black with oil

i didn't get the chance to ask anyone, was only checking out areas around imbil, gympie etc and thought i'd take a spin down there and see what the sea was doing.

Reminds me of the North Sea !! sad to see Rainbow beach in this state, we were hoping to go there in the next few weeks, but maybe leave it a while to hopefully sort itself out.

Me and the wife visited rainbow about 6 weeks ago and I can confirm the beach was lovely the day we went, we drove the 4wd onto the beach and set up a picnic out the back, went swimming and caught some rays. Your picture does not do it justice but with Hamish doing it's business on the foreshore it won't look pretty at the moment, but it will regenerate back to it's once beautiful self, for that I am sure....

No im sure this happened after Paul had been. Notice the headline on the article is now Oil, lol, this morning it read Explosive Poison falls off ship! Im no scientist so does anyone know what is ammonium nitrate?
and getting back on topic,lol, Does anyone live near Rainbow Beach and know what has happened there?
