Speed Cameras

Hello,

Just writing to warn people about the speed cameras here.
I read the warning before I came and didn't take heed!
I have been here 5 weks now and have got 2 tickets already (Total $400) - and I fear there may be more in the post. I drove for 20 years in the UK without any!
Anybody who thinks the UK is sneaky with speed cameras would not believe them here, no nice warning signs, no huge roadside cameras, just cars sneakily parked out of site with the cameras in them.
It seems they deliberately set out to deceive here by changing the speed limit every 200 yards by 10km/h or so. I never know how fast I should be going.
Be very afraid!

I would agree - I'm nine live used out of my 12 given. It was the double demits that did it on one occcassion and on the other one of those hidden cameras.

but have you noticed the headbangers raging about on they V8 utes!!!?

We were told (Gold Coast) to look out for big gold 4WD cars parked by the side of the road, as that is often what the police use here. No use if they're parked behind a bush though!

You can get a TomTom navigator with fixed speed camera locations already programmed which will alert you well before you reach one.

Me too I have received 2 in 12 months, it's ridiculous. I am just grateful I can't get the points as I am still on a UK liscence (not been in Aus for 6 consecutive months, went home for a visit in June)

Right this might seem like a really stupid question

(for which I apologise now), do you have a limit of points you can get on your licence in Oz before you get banned (like you do over here)?

We have a strectch of road (south street towards Fremantle) where they hide behing the tree near the bus stop, and also pull people over for using the bus lane.

i havent got any speeding tickets or points lost yet but am touching wood as i speak because now ive mentioned it i know im going too! ive had 2 tickets costing $140 for parking on the lawn at the front of my house though hmmmm
