We originally came on a 457 visa. Worst thing we could have done. We were very lucky we managed to get a 175 permanant within a year. It was very tough though. I would not recommend the 457 to anyone if you can get the 175 first then great. Good luck.

Came on oh(nurse 457) we have pr ,nurses are fastracked thro . I got a job but a lot of employers will not give you a sniff on 457 . I applied for a permanent job thro an agency to be told you are not considered becos you are not a pr . I said we are applying but you are temporary she says. My reply was slightly terse , I pay 3000 to bring my mutt over, transfer my pension , ship all our gear over ,yeah we are only stoppin a couple of weeks

Mally have to agree with you on that one heard this story re employers not believing you are stopping as on a 457. Could you not set up doing something for yourself you are allowed to set up your own business maybe get together with some other pio's in same situation to set up your own little business (sorry dk what your trade is)

I had a fat lot of NO'S and thats for supermarkets etc.

The job i really wanted to do that i have been doing for 22yrs is in Travel but i got told nope we dont hire so im at loss.
Damm i never new it was this hard .

I cant do any Traineeship jobs as we are on a 457 ,but i'm fine for nomal jobs yeah right if i there is any around if i dont find something soon i may end up mad..

But other that love it ere

Hi all Update

Still not working and its killing me no money and i cant claim anything and im more down now then ever.
so i may as well go home and be out of work in th UK thats how i feel now...

I went for a job with Flight Center and they liked me and everything but they have a policy and they dont take anyone on a 457 visa... This is a Joke.......
And its getting worse i like to know how many have come out on 457 and ended up with a job as my hubby said i can do what i like and im ere for 4yrs so what is the prob with these people and they do have a list of all the visa's that we all come in on so why oh why can i not find a bloody job im fed up with the hunt every day and it is the same jobs over and over again. i went for a job at safeway they said no to me and that was a checkout dolly..cuz im on a 457..

Im upset and i wanna leave hubby dont know yet that ive been given a no again and if i did wanna stay we cant apply for a pr visa as yet i keep getting told we have to wait 6mths i cant wait that long as its down to hubby to bring in the money which aint alot in truth i have done all my savings and have nothing left.... so how could i do a pr visa when u waste money living as u aint got a job i did try and apply before hand but that answer was wait until you get into oz and come and see us ..

When i lived ere many moons ago it was not this bad in getting a job or what visa you came in on.

I am so sorry, you are really having it tough
As someone else mentioned on here can you not set up doing something from home, maybe do some kind of travel site. Have a chat with Nigel he may be able to advise what you would need to do to be qualified to work from home.

Have you approached the RACQ ? my friend works in their travel dept up here and realy enoys it, she is also lucky enough to score some free short breaks, she has been to Aires Rock and Hawaii this last couple of months, give your local branch a call and see what they say,
