      Why Australia does not do a decent curry.

      I have figured out why Australia does not do curry….think about it…Australians do not travel that much as a rule and only really sample their own rather bland food that they have been brought up on …fast food takeaways are big business in Oz……..now us Brits have travelled all over Europe and Asia and have sampled the delight of foreign food be it Indian Chinese or Turkish….we appreciate the taste of spicy food much more than Australians that have been brought up on rather bland foods on barbies…..Indian restaurants cater for the taste-buds of Australians…that is why curries are not that spicy and rather sweet and rather bland….sorted.

      Hi Earlswood;
      Stirring again I see! Keep it up! Makes life interesting.
      In any country the non-indigenous cusine reflects the immigrant groups in the country. Since Australia has a large Asian community the widest range of food out is Asian, including Asian curries. Since UK has a large Indian community we have a large range of Indian and Pakistani cusines. Simple! Curries in the UK are modified to suit the UK palate, no doubt so are Asian dishes in Australia.

      I don't agree with your Earls...thank god for that, I was beginning to worry that I was agreeing with you all the time.

      Anyway back to your post. I don't agree, because Oz has so many of us brits over there...surely someone, somewhere would have cotton on to the fact there are a lot of pommies who like a good indian....big money to made....I think.

      My personal experience was that it was only indian takeaways they didnt really have. All other cuisines are cater for. In fact I preferred Oz chinese to UK chinese.

      Maybe I will get in touch with immigration and suggest that Indian / pakistan chefs are on CSL / MODL, so that us Brits can have a good curry. LOL. Better not let my OH know this, he will be distraught. He is a curry addict. Maybe we should move to Mumbai?!

      must answer this one, i have noticed on Corrie St and Eastenders that curry is often partaken after a "few" pints at the pub as you walk home. Well this doesn't happen here so you won't find a curry house on every corner (pub neither) as most patrons drive home.Most fish/chips shops close early here and not open at all on Mon. (Vic)
      Also who would want to eat a curry when the weather is warm,you only want a salad or light meal. There might be a few days in the Winter you would so not viable for a business. My slant on it anyway! Also can't agree on Aussies not being travellers,most people i know go overseas at least once a year.
