      Unhappy The clock is ticking

      Afternoon All

I am a Financial Advisor and arrived in Perth in November, throwing in a perfectly good job in the UK and taking the risk that I could secure a 457 with an employer. In the UK I studied for the PS146 which I obtained. I am currently living with family in the Northern suburbs.

I have quickly learnt that having no working rights means nobody wants to even talk to me. I have another three months to secure a job, otherwise I am out of here. The recent downturn has not helped at all and I find myself quickly running out of options.

If anybody on here can help, or knows anyone who might be able to assist me, you just do not know how grateful I'll be. It is all about contacts out here, I have learnt that much.

My hubby is in IT and the main thing we discovered was that if you weren't a perm res you had little chance of gaining a job by going over without a job in place. We are going over on a 457 luckily my husband has been sponsored maybe that is your best way to search for employment we sent his cv out to loads of companies through the phone book and registered on all the recruitment agency sites he could find but it turned out the speculative email is what got him his job.
      Good luck job hunting

My dad has a Financial Consultacy business so i will have a word and see if he can give you any help. I don't think he will want to take on any more consultants but he may be able to give you some good contacts.

Ill pm you with any information i get!

I think any person with a job starting with "Financial" and which also implies you know what you are doing ( like appending the words "expert" or "consultant" or "advisor" ) will be quite hated at this moment.
It's like saying "Hi, I'm an Australian Real Estate agent", but then tenfold due to this crisis we landed in because of all the 'financial guru's and advisors' who brought this mess on us.
Sorry but I think your job title has been made redundant all over the world, not just in Australia. Best thing to do is to go back to UK and secure yourself a 175 visa and then come back. Don't wait until the last day to sell off and leave, because if you leave 1 day after your visa has expired you will never be allowed to enter Australia or New Zealand again, under whatever visa you want ( not even a tourist visa ). Just pointing out reality , not wishing bad luck on you.

If you decide to stay in Australia, at the very least go talk to the immigration services to try and prolonge your stay ( which they will probably not do ).
The absolute worst thing you can do now is not start your departure in time.
That said, you will be better off living in the UK during this recession anyway, you get benefits and free housing , on top of the already crashed housing market, and better jobs in London.

      Good luck.

Hi, What about trying another state???? I know you say you are with family but I dont know how much you want to stay in oz. You could try Alan Collett from Go Matilda, he posts on here, being an accountant, he may be able to recommend agencies for you try, as you say its not what you know but who you know in oz.

      Good Luck

Thank you all so much for your responses, I really appreciate them.

Scamp, I do not know where you have got all your information from, but I am not going to have the debate here....... I'll just have to count to ten and walk away. Thanks Emmaroo, that would be great.

Not gonna give up just yet. All the best

      Gregg
