unsure whether I should move down under!

Hi, ALl, on Poms In OZ!!

I have been reading lots of the threads on the forum, a great informative site, very useful,
and i wanted to say HI!!!
I am 29, and I am considering with my partner moving to Perth. I have looked into immigration, and it doesnt seem to be a problem,
although we have high incomes here, and Im not sure whether we will regret making the move, we also have a nice property where I keep my horses, and I know selling them will be dreadful, but I find it so cold, and complain daily, putting everyone round the twist. I would be so happy to wake up to warmth every day!!
We dont have children, but how do you decide whether to go,
I havent been to oz yet, but planning to going to see perth this year..
      Any feed back gratefully recieved.

G'day mte, suggest that, in your planning to see Perth, you have a squiz at the east coast. Plenty of semi rural places to run horses. Depends also on your job situation.
Much as I like The West, The East has a lot more to offer. That way, your decision will be easier.
      Cheers, Bobj.

The ozzy government will assure you that you will live the dream but the reality is they are heading for a recession and if you chat on this forum to many poms in ozz. They have spent a lot of time and money emmigrating and are now unemployed and desperately unhappy even though their skills are on the newly released critical skill needed in australia list sanctioned by their prime minister!!! Work that out?
Enjoy your horses and jobs and nice home and enjoy the diversity of the great british weather and rest assured you wont find poisonus spiders or scorpions in your home here in england. Australia is making millions of dollars from brits believing the grass is greener!
      Hope this helps

thanks, well exactly what Gladiator Ace says, is what worries me,
that there arent as many jobs now, and the recession situation.
I do love the countryside, and have some kind of happiness from my horses, but i live in Aberdeen, and the climate is very harsh, I grew up in London, where it was
      much milder
hence why I am so undecided.
      think a visit should help.

hiya we have had our house on the market since feb only 2 viewers and is getting us down, i to am worried when i hear about building trade as hubby a brickie and there seams to be lots of posts saying no work..........when we were in perth in nov hubby spoke to a few ozzies and said work has slowed down but still lots around depends where you go, but that scares me if and when we sell there is none when we get there as only small amount of funds. but work over here is drying up very quickly that worried from week to week .......................

we are still going to go for it as i am sure there is all sorts of jobs that bring the money in with being on a pr visa at least you can do anything once there so give it a go but only you can decide that

life should not be full of regrets or what if's we only live once

Gosh, its just a nightmare isnt it!
See , we have good jobs here, with high income, and thats what worries me, that theres little work there, my partner works offshore oil and gas, so he will have to take a huge drop in income if we leave and go to oz,
but for a better lifestyle I feel it would be worth it?
How did you find Perth?? Was it expensive? I would imagine it would take 2 people working full time to make ends meet in it? I am a solicitor , so I have a lot of hoops to jump through before I will be able to get a job, probably have to sit exams,
Im just a bit unsure whether if its worth the gamble.

Hi, Personally we're loving it in Perth! We have good jobs, earn more money than we dd in the U.K have a house twice the size of the one in the U.K. Love the warm weather and milder winters, we have 2 cars which we would never afford in the U.K.
Love the beaches, the outdoor lifestyle, the recession is no-where near as bad here, still plenty of jobs and opportunity, whilst we love the U.K. can't honestly see us going back to the U.K. My mum recently came for her first visit and it thinking to retire out here, excellent Golf courses and lovely national parks.

We've worked hard to get here and feel so lucky to have this chance, life is too short.

Life really is what you make it, and yes Oz isn't for everyone, but you only get one chance of life, this isn't a rehearsal, If you never try you will never know!
