      Pet passport

Hello to you all and Happy New Year
Can someone advise me if I need a pet passport to export my 2 dogs to Perth?
I am really confused because I took my dogs to the vet on Friday to start the process but they said that usually the company you apoint to export your pets deals with all the paperwork - the company I have received an estimate from (PBS) have not mentioned assisting with any of the application so I am trying to do it myself and failing miserably

YOur help will be greatly received

      Hi,

I was under the impression the pet passport thing is mainly used if you intend to come back to uk with your dogs. It helps reduce the time they are in quarantine back in the uk I think. I think its quite along time they are in quarantine in uk, much more than when you take them to OZ.

      Hope that helps some.

      Hi

We are just about to start the export process with two collies.

Don't quote me as I'm not entirely sure and will be finding out myself this week. But I don't think you need a pet passport but think if you get them before you go and things don't work out over there it's esier to bring them back (don't have to do the 6mths quarantine).

Again not quite sure but when I find out I will let you know.

They dont need passports you atre right, what they do need is up to date jabs, to be wormed, deflead and blood tests done to make sure they hav'nt got Letosporosis and they must NOT have this upto date booster either. They also have to be microchipped. Thats about it we will be using pet air when we take our Labrador in the summer (hopefully) they seem really helpfull and seem to most of the work for you.
      Hope this helps you all.

      elodgement

Hi there - thanks to both of you for your replies, i love this site

I have just completed the on-line application (which is cheaper than doing it manually) elodgement for both the dogs. It has cost me $430.00 to apply for the permit for both dogs. You must complete a seperate one for each dog (don't want to insult your intelligence but i nearly skipped over that one).
I see the point about passport and coming back to the UK - but I am going to pass on it and deal with that problem should it arise (feeling positive).
I have booked the flights with a company called PBS as they were the cheapest - Newcastle to Perth for 2 dogs £1200. Then we have to pay at the other end for quarentine etc.
Feeling good another form completed now onto the furniture container paperwork - oh the life........

      Hiya
Yeah we have booked though a shipper called PBS international freight Ltd the charges include:
      Airline freight
      Airline handling
      Security handling
      Fuel exchange
      fuel surchrge
      exceptional security charge
      Customs export declaration
      Documentaion
      Vet sealing at airport
      supply dog box
      delivery
      AWB
      Agency charges
      overnight kennel facility
I have no idea what some of these are ???

I was told that some agencies do all the paperwork for you etc but we didn't use an agent for our visa so had to just plod on and do it ourselves. I am sure its the cheapest way but I hope i have done it all correct.
I had to ring DEFRA first (www.defra.gov.uk) and they sent me an application to export the dogs which we completed and faxed back to them. They then advised us to apply for the permit which i have done today, once we receive the permit we must inform DEFRA and then they will send us the certificates to take to our vets, then inform PBS of the permit - and we can then also book the quarentine in Perth.
I really hope i have done this right - it is hard when you not using an agent - but much cheaper and we have not sold our house so money tight
Keep in touch and let me know how you get on
