Do you have to declare vitamin tablets?
I know i will need to declare all presecription drugs but do i have to tell them about vitamin tablets? I will be taking multi vits. calcium and iron tablets all brought over the counter, also a herbal tablet for healthy hair.
Will i have problems taking all these with me as I need to take them all daily since my operation in May.
Many thanks

Hi Emma,
No you don't need to declare vitamin tablets.
=)
Customs isn't that strict I promise you! I'm not even sure you need to decalre all prescription drugs, I think only the ones that kaybhave regulations and prohibitions on them in this country... I mean I've been in and out loads of times and I've never once declared my contraceptive pills! And my OH just came in with me and he has some blood pressure tabs and he didn't declare those either and they can clearly see the pills when they X-ray bags and stuff, but noone even mentioned it.
I'm not expert though so this could be wrong and I guess there is no harm in erring on the safe side! But no, you certianly don't need to declare vitamins thjat are bought over the counter.
Enjoy your trip!

Re: Do you have to declare vitamin tablets?
It is time to declare an important health truth to the world. Vitamin supplements are cheaper than eating right. It is time to aggressively advocate for nationwide, worldwide vitamin supplementation, not because it is a nice idea but because it is essential. Nutritional supplementation not only improves lives, it saves lives.

I just came back from the UK. Customs wanted to look to look at a couple of parcels in my suitcase. As I emptied them from the bag, the seven bottles of various vitamins rattled into plain sight and the customs fellow never even mentioned them. I hadn't declared them - I don't think they asked me to. Vitamins are very expensive here compared to the UK. I also had a load of paracetamol and ibuprofen packets and some prescription pills in there.

Just reading that, made me think; sorry for silly question. How do you go about declaring prescription drugs when you enter Oz. Do you have to have them supported by a GP letter. I dont have anything sinister to bring in with me just I am always the one that gets stopped and I will be completely paranoid if I dont know what the correct position is.
Thanks

Sorry have to disagree with this post. As a healthcare professional and a mum I know a bit about healthy eating. Vitamin supplements are useful for the very young, very old and prenant/new mums but can never substitute a healthy diet. Vitamins don't help you live a longer healthier life...eating plently of low fat foods including a variety of fruit and vegetables can and does. Too many people eat rubbish and suffer the consequences. You only need look at stats re; heart disease and colon cancer etc to see the link between illness and a poor western diet.
You can't expect to eat drink smoke and throw a few pills down your neck and get away with it...trust me I see the results of a poor lifestyle every day
If only I could take my own advice..now where's that bottle of wine and my cod liver oil capsules...............
