      Early to bed!

Hi all, we've just come back from Queensland from a fact finding mission and we were amazed at the time everything closes.
Is it the aussie way to be early to bed and early to rise? i imagined long warm nights outside and down the beach untill gone 7pm like we do here in the summer
We like our nights out till late down the pub or going for a meal, but most of the areas we drove around were closing up at 9-10pm!
Even Brisbane wasn't busy like i thought a city would be.
We visited family in Mango Hill and there street was dead at 8pmwe went to dinner with them in Redcliffe and there was only us left at 10pm!there were some lovely places:Margate,Scarborough,Redcliffe,Caboolture,Mo oloolaba,Scarness to name a few. This might not seem like a big deal to most but is it like that everywhere in Australia?
I personally prefer north of Brisbane-Gold coast has lovely beaches but it's not for me.
Another thing is if they are crying out for floor layers-why did we drive around industrial areas and such like for ages and couldn't see any clue of that!w

Welcome to the sleepy state! There are different time zones...Australia time and Queensland time. QLD time tends to go backwards!!!!!!

It pretty much is the aussie way which is sad as I am sitting here at 8pm knackered and debating going to bed!!! We didnt believe it and thought that we had offended people when they left to go home at 8-9pm!!!! Now its so normal!!!

Sorry that we didnt catch up with you here, been having building work done and been so busy!

Hi Jo& Mark, maybe next time then because we will be back-with the kids next time.is it quiet in other states then?i think if we did'nt have such a busy social life then we would want to be on the first plane out there, but i suppose you haveto make some sacrificies(?!) so watch this space-good luck with the building work.

soz to tell you but its the same over here in WA (well in South West WA at least). Its taken a while to get used to going out to restaurants early as they close about 9 here maybe 10 on a weekend. Remember though lots of people socialise around people's houses so you may get a few more late nights. But remember its light here early and alot of people get up and go jogging or down the beach so life here starts earlier than back in the UK. Also when its hot you'll find you tire quicker so you'll be looking for that bed earlier too, you'll soon get the hang of the laid back lifestyle, our social life maybe a shorter night but its not much quieter than we had back in the UK just isn't based around pubs anymore....life here is good don't let early closing put you off. We appreciate it now and are really enjoying the chilled out lifestyle and no longer having lost weekends from suffering huge hangovers - too much to do and see to waste weekends anymore.

Yeah we laughed when (during a previous stay of several months) Damians sis and bro-in-law said we too would soon be falling asleep at 9pm...sure enough we did - you just kinda fall in with it all! It's different in Sydney but then we have lots of British friends there to play singstar etc with. When we went out to cinema etc in the evening there was hardly anyone in there!! I guess you get used to it and get up earlier (hmmmm - not sure as I love my bed!!!) He he!
