      do we need doctors files?

      Hello

Wondering if anyone can shed light on whether you need to take your doctors notes from your surgery to australia to register over there. I have just phoned up doctors who have said they can only give me copies of my notes to take with me. this may take 2-3 weeks me and my partner are leaving in a couple of weeks so I am wondering if its worth taking them with me. We both are fit and healthy and have no real problems I am just thinking about leaving them here.

Also is there anyone worth contacting before you leave to inform them your not in the country any more i think i will phone the tax office etc anybody else i should inform?

      Any advice would be appreciated

      Thanks Vicky....

      Hi Vicky

Your medicals records remain here forever. They stay with your last GP unless they returns them to the Primary Care Trust.

      Hope this helps

You don't need to register with a Doctor in Oz, your free to go to whoever, wherever, whenever you like.
If you havn't had any medical problems or are not having any ongoing medical treatment I wouldn't bother with your records if it's going to be a hassle getting them.

      Hi Vicky

We filled in form P85, which advised that we were leaving the country and if I remember rightly, they will also check to see if you are owed any money back from tax overpayment (someone please correct me if I'm wrong on that one). We also paid £10 per person to get our doctors notes, we have 2 young children and thought it best to get them, but to be honest was a waste of money as the doctor here dosn't need to see them.

Cheers for the warning ladies - I only had mine done in the UK in June and have brought the test results with me but I'm guessing they'll treat me the same as you two!

Vicky we didn't bring our medical notes because after the receptionist told us up to 50 quid each for our files we thought about our med history and decided we could both tell a doc anything they need to know about us. Neither of us have ever been really ill or had hospital treatment.

On the tax front fill in a P85 to claim any overpaid tax and also do an R105 if you are leaving a bank account open. This will stop the bank taking any tax off the interest you earn!
