Desperate!!
Hi all,
New to the forum, just found it!! I was wondering if anyone on here could help me and the wife out? We went to Oz in April to see my Aunty, Uncle and cousins in Sydney and loved the place, we also ventured upto Brisbane and loved it. Before going I had sent my CV to a number of companies and actually met up with a couple one in Sydney and one in Gold Coast they both offered me work if I got my visa sorted, I spoke to my family over there and they said the visa would be easy enough to get as they knew of brickies mates who had got one and other non skilled workers.
Everyone we met in Oz asked when we were moving over which I found amazing from complete strangers in pubs, it's such a friendly country compared to uk.
Anyway I got back contacted numerous emmigration companies to arrange a visa and this is where I fell flat, my wife is a PA/Executive Secretary/Internal Auditor and I am a Manager looking after meter readers for E.ON one of the biggest energy companies in UK, but evey company we spoke to said that because neither of us had a degree we would not be eligible for a visa, when I asked what they degree should be in they said anything!! So I could go over as a office manager with a degree in art!!sounds daft to me!
Does anyone know of a way round this?I have been told company sponsorship would be one way but the companies I have sent my CV to are reluctant to sponsor saying it would be too difficult to do for a manager! Any help would be appreciated we are so desperate to start a new life in OZ.
Does anyone think that emmigratiopn rules may be lapsed in the future to allow more people in to Oz as when we were over there in April they were saying on the news that they will need more workers coming into the country in the next few years.
There must be away as all the foreign workers I saw over there particularly in Sydney can't all have degree's??
Thankyou all for any help in advance

Hi
Sorry to hear you are having trouble, we have been through the same thing, luckily we have managed to find a sponsor. Before we found a sponsor the other option we were looking at was going on a student visa, only one of you has to study and you can work 20 hours a week during term time and 40 out of term time.
Not sure if this would be an option for you, it can be quite expensive but at least it is another option to think about.
Have you ever work in a job that is on the skills list?? if you have you could get back into that line of work for a year and be accepted.
I hope this helps, let us all know how you get on.

Thanks Mandy,
No neither of us have ever worked in arole on skilled list, and yes I know the student visa option, was it difficult for you to find someone to sponsor you?? is it right that sponsorship can get you a temporary visa for 4 years but after 2 years if sponsor will sponsor you again you can get permanent??I think this is our only realistic option really, I am sending CV's to every energy company I can find in Australia on the internet asking if there are any vacancies for me and if they are prepared to sponsor me, but so far no joy.
Thanks again and keep in touch Shane and Ali

Keep trying and you will get there in the end. We were really really lucky and we found our sponsor here on poms in oz. Thats right the visa is for 4 years.
I wish you alll the luck in the world on getting there.

Hi Shane and Ali
Could you sort of plan well ahead and maybe one of you study for a degree here or retrain in a trade and get the work experience required? (Tradespeople dont need degrees but do need either qualifications and few years experience or no qualifications and more actual experience if you get my drift) I'm guessing the degree would be the quicker path though.
As Mandy says, lots of good luck coming your way
Lyn
