      red book/blue book

      hi,

just wondering if anyone out there knows anything about the children's healthcare system out in Oz (NSW specifically)

do they have health visitors and clinics like us?

how do I go about swapping my british "red books" (the ones where all innoculations etc are recorded) for aussie "blue books"?

any advice on this theme would be appreciated!!!

      thanks,
      aliduck

Yes they do have child health clinics and community nurses (I think they're called maternal/child health nurses) a role similar to that of the Health Visitor in the UK. It appears that the service is much better resourced than that of the UK. I am a registerd health visior in the UK and I have been offered a job in Adelaide.

To get your Redbook info put onto the aussie system you go to a Dr who cpoys it all onto a form.I had to have this done in order to recieve child care benefit and they also made my 3 yr old have the Hep B injections. If i refuesd they wouldnt pay child care costs so had no choice really. My friend who has just arrived did the same and her children had to have chicken pox vacine ,we are Brisbane but presume its roughly the same ,,good luck

If you don't go after what you want, you'll never have it. If you don't ask, the answer is always no. If you don't step forward, you're always in the same place...
If you get a chance, take it, If it changes your life, let it. Nobody said it would be easy they just said it would be worth it...

Hi I am in NSW and have one English(red book) and an aussie(blue book)....When we came out here they just went through the red book of joshs at the check up. They just add to his book now as they are pretty much the same, the injections alter slightly but the ones that are different they write by hand anyway.

When I had Ruby here, after we got back from the hospital I had one visit at home and then you go to the clinic for weigh ins..pretty much similar to the UK really.
