      Smile Your favourite food available

      Hi to all,
I have been living here 9 years now and have recently set up a British shop to ensure I have a regular supply of proper chocolate, crsips and decent mint sauce. I can easily supply any new arrivals with their favourites, check out my website A Bit of Brit - British food and so much more. and e-mail me with any questions. I am happy to chat about life in Oz- I first came out on a 1 year teaching exchange and loved it. I would also like to recommend looking to live outside the major capital cities- the lifestyle is fantastic and so much cheaper. I currently live on 5 acres in a 4 bedroomed house for the same price as the two bedroom tiny terrace I had I had in the north of England. It is well worth the move.

I knew I wasn't the only one who likes real comfort food. Yes I can do mail order and yes I have PG tips, Bisto and those kind of things. Guinness is available in cans and in some pubs on tap- very similar to the real thing but not quite as good as Dublin. Unfortunately I cannot sell the beer as I do not have a license, but you can get Kilkenny in pubs and some places do Boddingtons and Murphys in cans. Beware of some things in the supermarkets that look familiar- they have just started making Irn Bru here- having banned its importation- and it does not taste the same. Thus the reason for setting up specialist shops like mine. I hope the knowledge that there are some of us here who have absolutely no regrets about moving may help with the decision jitters. Just wait until you see the size of the prawns!

Lager is not quite the same. Each state has their favourites and generally the lager is not as strong. (VB in Victoria, Tooheys New in NSW, Carlton in Queensalnd etc) Also, they generally just refer to it by the brand name, the word lager is not really used. The measures in the pubs are different in each state too. In NSW a small is called a midi and larger are schooners. They are smaller than halves and pints.
