Question Singapore or Hong Kong ????????

      Hi all
We cant decided between the two, Hong Kong or Singapore, as a stop over on the way to Oz??!!!!!
We thought we could have a couple of nights stay, to break the journey up and see the sights too!!!
Also my kids have been saving and want to buy some electrical goods like i-pods, psp's, games etc., and I would'nt mind treating ourselves to a dvd camcorder!!
Can anyone tell us which is the best place for families & bargains of course???!!!!
Thanks to all you seasoned travellers

      Hi Sally-Ann
Sorry haven't visited Hong Kong but I thought Singapore was Fab! We bought electrical bits in Singapore they were really cheap, boys got Ipods and the decking station the sound of it is fantastic!
I'm sure someone put on here once as well that Hong Kong was not a nice as Singapore
but ile watch the thread with you and see what people say.

      Hi Sally ann

Although I would LUUUUUUURRRVE to go to Hong Kong I wouldn't want to take my two girls (although they are desperate to go to Disneyland which you could do there!!).

Singapore was brilliant for the kids, yes it was hot and humid but we stayed in a hotel with a pool and everywhere was air conditioned. It was fabulously clean, everybody was really friendly and even when we were walking back to the hotel late at night, we all felt safe.

The shopping was brill, big shopping complexes every 100 yards and the trips to the Night Time Safari and Sentosa Islands where we all swam with dolphins was the highlight (kids still talk about it now and look at the photos)

We are definately going back there if we ever get through this whole process.

It's only my opinion and I wouldn't want to influence you in case you hated it (would then be all my fault!!!!) but WE loved it.

Good luck with whatever you decide, where ever you go it will be the start of your big adventure so I'm sure you'll love it.

      Hi
I've been to both, we stopped off in Hong Kong for 3 days last time we came to Oz on holiday and this time we stayed in Singapore for 3 days on our way to Sydney when we were emigrating! I really loved Hong Kong and the markets are fantastic for designer copies that are very cheap. Singapore doesn't have that but is excellent for electrical goods, head to Lucky Plaza! Whichever one you choose I think you'll have a great time.....

Hi. We are moving in October (3 kids) and flying with Malaysian via KL and Langkawi (for a couple of days sanity) but am curious about what do do with my parents when they visit early next year. You have flown via Singapore right? Did your Travel Agent arrange the hotel etc also or did you do that yourselves. And do you think its worth going right through; stopping for 1 night or even stopping for 2? We have never been at all so have no concept!! For us we are quite happy - as husbands employer is sorting it all however really dont have a clue where to start with my mum and dad. Any advice woudl be welcome. Thanks, Sarah

      Stopovers

      Hi Sarah
Re stopovers, when we emigrated last year we stopped over in Singapore for 3 days. It's quite simple, you can just tell your travel agent you want a stopover (Singapore Airlines have a stopover programme!) and they will give you a list of hotels available, there are several within each price band and you pick what you like. The price is very reasonable indeed and if I remember correctly airport transfers are included in the price too. We also did the same thing a couple of years ago when we travelled with Cathay Pacific and wanted to stopever in Hong Kong.

      Hi

We lived in Singapore a few years back and I travelled regularly to Hong Kong on business.

Singapore is fabulous - clean, orgnised, structured - great shopping and excellent restaurants. Service is amazing - so efficient - puts Europe to shame.

Hong Kong also has excellent shopping although its much more of a city ie dirtier, busier. In fact we stopped there recently on the way to Oz and the pollution blowing down from China was awful - no views at all. However it does have a great nightlife - a bit more raunchy than Singapore if that's your thing. Some say Hong Kong is like Singapore but on acid !

Both places are exciting but Singapore is my preference - more family focused - totally safe - Enjoy !
