      Positive Thinking...

There has been a lot of negativity this week so I thought I should start a new thread entitled 'what's good about Oz' and those of us fortunate enough to already be here can contribute for the PIO addicts who are either thinking about coming or are on their way as I'm sure a lot of them would have been rather disheartened by reading some of the comments this week.
I'll start it off and feel free to add to it......

      Gas bills are cheaper
      Electricity bills are cheaper
Water bills are cheaper (despite the fact that it's metered)
      No TV licence fee
      Food is fresher and tastier

Over to the rest of you.....(and I didn't even mention the weather!!!)

I am very biased but the thing I like most is the fact that you can be yourself. There is less conformity in every aspect of life. No one cares what you wear, what you have or what you do as long as it does not interfere with anyone else.

      Thats's a great point.
I dont know what it is about us in the UK, but my daughter is the grand old age of 12 and when they have school discos or meet up down the town, they all look like they have just finished a shift at the local brothel........... I dont get it!!!! (My daughter does'nt though I might add... bit of a tomboy who wears strictly jeans, t-shirts & converses!!!! But she does feel under to pressure/odd one out!!!!)
Im glad were on our way to Oz, and have said to my daughter loads of times, how lovely it will be to live in our board shorts and flip-flop ... ooo sorry "thongs"!!

I could list loads of other great reasons too...... but i'll leave that everyone else!

Great idea by way Koala12 !

      I like this thread.

Can't really contribute 'cos I haven't been there yet, but I like Australian wine. Hope that counts!

Love your post Koala, like your list too yes paying less money out is a factor but just to get away from this negative nanny state called the UK is enough incentive for us.Plus of course meeting some the nice peeps off this site when we eventually get over to Brisbane.

Quality Family Time has been the biggest bonus for us and taking the kids out doesn't have to cost a fortune.

The weather is a bonus and yes it does rain but even those rain storms have been short

Everyone says "how ya doin" and it's great to be able to say "good" and mean it.

Aussies go to bed and get up early - suddenly I'm normal!!

Relaxing outdoors in the warm evenings
      Petrol is really cheap
Clearskin wine! 6 bottles of chardonnay for $12!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with you on that Ali in that a lovely day out doesn't have to cost a fortune. There are such lovely beaches here and so many nice walks that it's lovely just to go out, enjoy the scenery and fresh air. Also I find that people are more friendly and don't scurry past you but make eye contact and sometimes say 'hi'. Since being here I have also found myself getting up far earlier than I ever did in UK.....so the day is longer and I don't miss anything...............except my beauty sleep and heaven knows I could do with some of that!!!! Also Spock, nothing wrong with liking a drop of the Aussie plonk....may I suggest when you get here you try Tempus Two Merlot - delicious!!!!!
